Movie Rundown

Curious about what's coming out in the US for the this week?

February 29th:

The Other Boleyn Girl

Okay, do I have to give up my history fangirl status if I say that I'm not planning on seeing this one? Because Henry the 8th just never interested me. Sure, he's played by Eric Bana and there appears to be a very good chance of nakedness, but...I never read the book either. I'll probably see it eventually.

Semi-Pro

Will Ferrell+stupid-Judd Apatow+Andre Benjamin-Vince Vaughn=Not paying to see this.
Damn, it has Andy Richter and Maura Tierney, too.

Penelope

I'll believe it when I actually see it. Wow, I did just see an ad, maybe it is...actually..coming...out. Yay!!! It's Christina Ricci and James McAvoy!!!! I believe there might be some sort of plot involved, but it's James McAvoy and Christina Ricci in a RomCom!!!!

I've heard that Penelope is opening for you too. I think they had a premiere the other week? Or at least, I saw Reese Witherspoon pictures where she was attending one at any rate... I'd love to see this movie too.

Why not the Other Boleyn Girl? By all accounts it is an excellent book, but I don't think I rate the movie to be as good, honestly.

Well, tell me, what is the plot? The ads on tv sum it up as a love triangle between Henry the 8th and the sisters. Is there more to it than that? What makes the book so excellent?

The book does not make it out as a "love triangle", it is more the deviousness and politics of an English court. They want to "lure" the King in with Anne Boleyn, but he falls for Mary instead, even though she is unassuming and not out to "lure" him at all - she is forced into it and used basically. Then she must teach her sister to do the same, even though she doesn't want to. I wouldn't call it a "triangle" because it is not that simple. I have a feeling that that is what the film will make it out to be though. It has been a while since I've read the book admittedly.

Thank you very much for telling me.
