One of the big selling points of the Guardian of the Galaxy films is the music. There was a lot of discussion about which soundtrack was better. I had a hard time deciding which soundtrack I liked better so I resorted to math, lol. I gave each song a 1-10 number, added them up and divided it by how many singles were on that soundtrack.

Awesome Mix Vol. 1 6.75
Awesome Mix Vol. 2 7.71

No wonder how I couldn't decide which one I liked better! However, Awesome Mix Vol. 2 did suffer from "Brandy" which I gave a 0. I disliked the song before the film and now, it makes me cringe just listening to it. I also had another sad realization. I kind of noticed that nothing seemed to be after Meredith met Ego and James Gunn confirmed that there are no songs after 1979. Here's a woman described as "knowing the lyrics to every single song that came on the radio" and once she meets Ego and has Peter, that just...goes away? Now, I know my mom refers to the period of time when she had several small children at the same time as a lost time when she wasn't paying so much attention to pop culture (that would have been 1973-1977 so I don't think she missed much) but once the children get older, she gets back into things helped by Philip Glass, Wings, Genesis and more. I refuse to believe that Meredith Quill finds nothing between 1980 and 1988 in music worthy. Of course, it could also be taken as she only wanted the Awesome Mixes to be music that she had previously shared with his father because he never got to meet him...but Ego's a dick so I hate that interpretation, too, so sad all around.

Ooh, but I have a thought regarding the soundtrack...
