Elizabeth Sladen on Children's Television

From the Elizabeth Sladen tribute issue of Doctor Who magazine:

Is children's TV in general given as much support as it should be, do you think?

No, children's television is always the first to go. People think the money is in TV after seven or eight o'clock. That's when you have more people watching, but the people who watch the five o'clock slot are going to be the people watching at seven o'clock in a few years' time. You mustn't give children the lowest common denominator, or that's all they'll aspire to. To have really good children's TV is the most important thing we can offer audiences. Of course it's overlooked, although not by enormous talents like Russell. The Sarah Jane Adventures came in under the radar. 'Hello, here we are!' We don't have to, in a way, carry the load that the BBC's number one programme, Doctor Who, does.
