I do remember some overt mentions of McDonalds throughout the books, though not Happy Meals; she stopped at least once as Irene Nesser and dined upon Big Macs occasionally, but preferred to live off sandwiches and microwave pizza. But yeah, I agree that the product placement was pretty . . . yeah.

Honestly, I kept hearing about these big dramatic changes between the book and the movie ending, but all it was is that in the book, Anita WAS living in England and made a call to Harriet in Australia, which they tracked. That and Anita stayed single so that Harriet could marry; in Australia Harriet and her husband had a sheep ranch, and H had a few kids.

In terms of getting back together [spoilerspoilerspoiler] they become friends again, but not so much romance. Which I like better, 'cause I loves me some platonic relationships, so.
