It's all pretty ridiculous, for sure. Above all it's ridiculous to me that we remain the only first-world nation that hasn't adopted some form of universal health care. And it's yet another instance where conservatives use their emotional buzzwords like freedom and privacy and 'death panels' and what have you in order to get their voting base to agitate against their own best interests. It just makes sense to me that health care should not be something that you have to be able to afford--it should be available to everyone, anytime, and that includes the preventive care that so many skip due to lack of insurance, which then just drives them into the system later, when they can no longer be cured quickly or cheaply.
It's not looking good for the Affordable Care Act, but you know, I'm actually sorta hoping it does get tossed out. Because then our only options will be the private system that most everyone acknowledges is broken, and a national, public healthcare system like every other first-world nation has. If only we could count on the populace (and Congress) to move in that direction.
