I never saw the second one but I enjoyed this a lot more than the first one.
Dubois must be like Natasha's secret French half-sister...
I know I shouldn't have been expecting her but I still really, really, REALLY wanted Marlene to show up at some point because Marlene is AWESOME.
Also, we passed Avengers on the way out. We could hear Hulk grunting and my mom goes, "puny god."

Date: 2012-06-10 08:46 pm (UTC)I have a hit-miss relationship with rom-com films.
Some I love others, I hate.
Oh yeah, it's a small role.
I think he gets maybe 7 mins. if that of screen time.
But damn, he looks good with blonde hair, it's pretty damn cute & his American accent is to die for.
I loved War Horse but I was invested in the story & Tom as well as Benedict were just an added bonus.

Date: 2012-06-11 02:05 am (UTC)I thought I was gonna die of boredom through most of War Horse, ngl. I'm an action/sci-fi/adventure/fantasy/comedy kind of girl and War Horse is not at all a genre I usually watch. Sort of like rom com. I'll also be watching the Shakespeare productions for Tom when they come out and I hate Shakespeare. Gonna watch it anyway and perhaps gain some appreciation for it, I hope.
I don't do period pieces or dramas, really. However, the end of War Horse had me crying my eyes out. lol I somehow forgot that Benedict was in the movie so when he showed up it was a pleasant surprise! Loved him and Tom and there needed to be more of both of them. :(
My favorite part in that entire movie is when Joey is being sold and the Captain is like, "But's it's all I've got," in reference to the 30 guinea paid for the horse. The way the line is delivered just melts my heart. I've rewatched that bit like four times. LOL

Date: 2012-06-12 01:42 am (UTC)Truly awful films that NO ONE should watch whereas Woody Allen is art.
Also, there really isn't even that much romance in it or comedy. There is humor, but it's not like a Judd Apatow film or something.
I'm also saddened by "torturous" and "War Horse" in the same sentence...

Date: 2012-06-12 03:39 am (UTC)Also, I honestly don't think I've watched a single Woody Allen movie before (or didn't know it if I did). I'm not much of a movie person. I see about one movie per year in the theater, although I might see that same movie multiple times if I like it (re: Avengers, Star Trek, Harry Potter). As far as seeing stuff on DVD, I've really got a very narrow range of interest and am likely to pass over anything not in that range unless the decision to watch it is not mine.
I'm more likely to watch a documentary from the Science Channel or something.
War Horse...not the worse movie I've watched by any means but I was bored to tears by it, tbh. The first 43 minutes were so unbelievably slow and the entire soundtrack overly dramatic and distracting. I wish they'd toned it down a bit. The pacing was slow in general and the story didn't grab me until the end. The acting was great though, on all counts. It's not the acting that's the problem. The story was just boring to me and many of the characters were killed off so quickly that I had no time to get invested in any of them or even remember their names.
Then again, I don't care for period dramas or war movies so this could be where the problem lies. lol It's not my genre and I'm not the movie's target audience. I knew that going on but watched it anyway, just as I will watch these other movies on my list know full well that I probably won't like them.

Date: 2012-06-12 01:37 am (UTC)I normally love characters played by Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen but in that film, I wanted them to go away together and leave everyone else alone...
