Derek Jeter

There isn't a lot that has remained the same as it was when I was in sixth grade, that was twenty years ago. Two main constants have been The Simpsons on Sunday nights and Derek Jeter.

I was actually a little surprised this baseball season at how many people actually cared. I thought those in New York, Tampa Bay and New Jersey would be the only ones.

Yes, people in Tampa Bay are often HUGE Yankees fans. This isn't just all the retirees from New York, the Yankees had their spring training there before the MLB ever decided to give us our own team.

I still remember the morning shows in high school talking about "Derek Jeter's peter" and my friends in college mentioning how he'd come to their Starbucks or wherever.

So, it'll be weird when he's just one of our many retirees.

OMG, it makes me sad every time I think about the Yankees without Derek Jeter! I might have gotten a little misty-eyed during his last game at Yankee Stadium. I literally have no memory of what baseball is like without him, and he's been my favorite player forever. Also I had an enormous crush on him in junior high and high school. *g*

Oh boy - it will be quite an adjustment.
