I'm still hoping for someone not so Caucasian but that doesn't appear to be what they're going for... I know the original comic character was a male Caucasian but unlike Steve Rogers or Tony Stark, his cultural and racial identity doesn't really play a big part in who he is as a person.
Yes, I couldn't really see Joaquin Phoenix or Jared Leto in that role. I think Ethan Hawke could be neat but he needs the right kind of director to challenge him or his acting isn't as good as it could be. I've been a bit surprised at some of the names mentioned because I assumed they would aim for 30-35 because they do seem to be casting lately with the intent in mind that this is a 7-15 year role.
Ah, you're a Sleepy Hollow fan through and through, lol. I went to look up what else he'd done and realized what might have been another hang-up I had with the series. Previously, he was on Lost in Austen which I ADORE! but I didn't like his Bingley, lol.
Then again, I was just telling someone how I would love Manish Dayal as Stephen which won't happen either.
