Chickens and Plants

Okay, you guys were so good with my cooking Question that I have another one.

my town has chickens.

They don't actually belong to anyone and although there are laws against free-roaming, they are unstoppable.

However, they are eating my purple, low lying plant. They are probably the same culprit that ate our LILY!
The aloe appears to be the only thing they leave alone.

Short of building a fence around the house which is economically unfeasible and doesn't seem to help anyway...they fly when food's involved or getting a pet to chase them off, what can we do?

*We also don't want to kill them.

No dogs? No guns?
Well, that eliminates the easy possibilities. Lol............
Can you get live catch cages like you can do with mice?
Of course then you have to have a place to take them. Ugh.........
Hugs, Jon

We don't have a chicken problem, but friends of mine has deer eating everything remotely botanical. They installed a sprinkler with a motion detector -- every time something moves, it gets sprayed, and the garden gets watered into the bargain! Works like a charm. (On deer, skunks and racoons, anyway!)

We get deer, but just in the Winter time when they don't have easy food sources. We first noticed that they were eating out our bird feeders. So we started putting corn out for them hoping they would leave the bird feeders alone. Now they just eat both. LOL.....................

Very cool idea but I like the other animals...plus, it literally is just one plant, not a garden...I also hate how the neighbor has the same plants but right next to the garage and they NEVER bother it!!!

I guess we'll have to relocate it next to the house.
