Questlove Censored

I'm not a musicologist. I know more than a lot but a lot less than some. I like paying attention to the Walk-On songs on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon but sometimes, I don't know them, like when Michelle Bachmann came on, I just heard them singing something like, "Fa la la la". I thought it was an interesting but had no idea what it was.

Technically, she is a proven liar but Questlove has apologized for the "bitch" part. Still, Bachmann wanted his head. Glenn Beck wanted Jimmy Fallon's head.

Whatever, it's a late night talk show, not Sesame Street.

Unfortunately, it's NBC and they've proven time and again how craven cowards they are. They have not fired Jimmy or Questlove BUT...

Questlove must now clear every walk-on song with three different people, and can under no circumstances tweet about the Bachmann incident ever again.

He's upbeat about it.

"It's still a comedy show, so they promise not to step on my toes or that type of thing, but they definitely want to know the title of the song, the subject matter of the song – can it be seen as an insult? It was kind of wrong for me to throw [NBC] under the bus without telling them what it was, so I understand from a business standpoint."

But I'm still worried because it's NBC and they have a history of being dicks...or is that the male equivalent to bitch?

There's actually a petition to get rid of the censorship here:

The whole thing has gotten blown out of proportion... I definitely feel that Bachmann was owed an apology- which she got. Then it should have been dropped.

That being said, if someone had called Michelle Obama a bitch in a song as she was introduced, we'd still be hearing about it, screams of misogyny and those responsible would be fired.

But because Bachmann has an unpopular political stance (thank whatever gods may be it isn't as popular as she thinks it is), well, people won't try to pull the misogyny card.

The double standard is very disturbing.

Pretty much what [livejournal.com profile] direwolfdragon said. If it had been any Democratic female politician, I think there would have been a lot more yelling.

Sort of like Bill Maher's "joke" about how he wished Elisabeth Hasselbeck had been raped instead of Lara Logan (or something equally distasteful -- the man is a pig and I don't pay much attention to what he says). It was a disgusting "joke", but it's swept under the rug because Maher is liberal. Imagine if Glenn Beck had said that about a liberal woman.

I went to look up this interview, but I'm assuming nbc or someone has deleted the intro (sounds familiar...) but looked up the song on YouTube, and there was an ad asking, "Gingrich for president?" Heh.

That grotesque bitch should be boiled in petroleum by-products along with her gay-hating fake hubby. Signed and delivered!
