Turning 30

Okay, I know I have 367 days to prepare for this, but I'm starting to get a little weirded out about turning thirty. Now, my friend came up with a sort of bucket list and I know they do that on all the TV shows so...

I'm trying to think of things that I haven't done but could easily do before turning thirty next year. Things that can be done in state and not too expensive, like:

1. See the Atlantic Ocean. I've been in the Gulf plenty of times, even seen the Mississippi, but the actual Atlantic seems very different. Also, I've never really been east of Orlando.

2. Finish writing a book.

3. Attend a fandom activity, like something done by Hurricane Who.

Any other ideas?

Oh lordy the big 3-0. I don't even want to think about that! I have another 7 and a half months before thinking about being 29 and it terrifies me lol! I have so many things planned for my 29th year on this forsaken world, half I know won't even come.

Don't know about bucket lists though; yours is pretty good. You know, I've NEVER seen an ocean? I've seen tons of lakes though, lakes are boring :/

Based on my turning 30 experience (I was in a massive, humongous snit for two months beforehand and a month after), I'd say one of those is a good idea. And/or:

-accomplish something else you've wanted to do since before you hit 20;
-don't spend the day alone;
-look on the 20s as a big swath of learning (probably one of the reasons I'm not still in a massive snit);
-do something different that week--not the whole week is your birthday necessarily, just don't treat it like an ordinary week;
-erm, I forget so I'll reiterate the not doing the 3-0 alone thing.

If I had mine to do all over again, I would probably have spent the whole week out of town--which just happened to be an option--but at least the weekend!

Oh to be turning 30 again.

If you think 30 weirds you out wait until your looking down the barrel of 50. Admittedly I've got 4 years and 47 days but it's still freaking me out a little.

and HAPPY BIRTHDAY :)

Lets see. How about:

Stalk the film set of CSI: Miami
Drive from one end of the state to the other
Jump out of a plane that's perfectly capable of landing
Go hot air ballooning.
Ge a bottle of wine and a friend and watch the sunset or alternatively get a cup of tea/coffee and watch the sun rise over the Atlantic :)

The Atlantic Ocean is lovely! I grew up on the ocean and there's nothing prettier than standing on the beach and just staring out at an expanse of sea. It always makes me think about how fragile the ecosystem and life are.

I've never been out on a boat in the Atlantic though. I'm rather unnerved by deep water and I won't go in past my chest, if that.

ETA: I think part of this fear comes from when I was in Norfolk, VA when I was about 8 and I went out too far in the ocean. A giant wave swept over my head and knocked me over and my feet left the bottom. :(

First off: Happy Birthday!

Things to do:
- climb a mountain (the Smokies are close to you and not a huge challenge.)
- go skydiving (that was my personal before-30 thing)
- learn the basics of another language - because the Earth is getting smaller all the time
- attend a protest (that used to be a 20s must)
- VOTE

Now, some words on turning 30 and beyond from someone who is WAY past that point: I dreaded that day and chose to not take the day off work so I could pretend it wasn't happening. I sat at my station and cried all day. Don't do that! Make it an occasion!

Looking back, if I was given the chance to re-live my 20s, I'd say "no way in hell!" because that is a time of coming into your own and making mistakes and being scared and lost. If I was given a chance to relive my 30s, I'd grab it in a heartbeat! Those are the best years. You're old enough to know what you want and be taken seriously and young enough to not be discriminated against and dismissed. The 30s really are the best decade ever! Look forward to them!

Okay, first of all -- turning 30 is freaky at first. DEFINITELY. But you get over it pretty quick. Sort of... :D

As for the fandom thing, how about a con? You're in Florida, right? Well, there's Dragoncon, New York Comic Con, and Chicago TARDIS. Those are all on that general side of the country. Or if you want to be really exciting, you could come out west to Gallifrey, Wondercon, or Comic Con! :D

I just turned 40, and I'm telling you, you have nothing to worry about. I promise. Smart girl like you? You'll breeze through it. xoxox
