No More Firefox...

I've been trying to put off the inevitable and not face facts but I was finally forced to admit today...

Firefox has been screwing up my computer.

Every week or so, they come up with an update and half the time it claims to be incompatible with my security program...WTF?

Then, within 1-3 days after updating, my USB ports start malfunctioning. First, it's my hard-drive back-up... not cool at all.
Then, it's my battery back-up... one horrible power hiccup away from disaster...

Plus, the only reason I downloaded Firefox in the first place was because everyone said it was the best. Even job applications required it. Now, six years later, this isn't the case and websites that once welcomed me have me on their black list because of my browser being suspicious...

So, I have Safari.

Honestly, Safari was I wanted in the first place but it wasn't available for PC back then and when it was...everyone said Firefox was best.

I figured out how to add a "Home" button. When I pull up a new tab, it suggests ideas for where I want to go based on previous History. Best of all, everything loads super fast especially LJ and it brings everything onto one page so I don't have to scroll side to side anymore. It's like going from Pan and Scan to Letterbox.

I already tried IE and it sucks. A lot of people like Chrome but I don't trust Google that well.

I would've suggested Opera. :)

Okay, I may still be sold on Opera. Safari also had the advantage of already having been downloaded from an Apple update...

However, there's something called webtoolkitprocess or something similar that breaks on Safari every 1-3 hours depending on how heavily I'm clicking on stuff. When that happens, everything gets reloaded whether I'm in the middle or something or not.

So, tell me about Opera.

I've been using Opera occasionally since 1998, regularly since 2003, and exclusively since 2005. It's the George Harrison of browsers.

It's a lightweight download (way smaller than Safari or Firefox), it's very fast, and it does almost everything you want — without resorting to plugins or extensions. It's my browser, and it's my e-mail client, and it's my RSS reader, and it's a web development tool, etc.

Ad blocking, for instance, is built into the software. (It's not automatic, though. You can either "train" it to block ads, or you can download a list of sites and URLs to filter. I did the former, and now I do the latter.)

I love it. I love it because it's niche. And I love it because it's the bleeding edge. It's the browser that everyone else steals their ideas from. :)

Thanks, I'm trying it now.
