I took it off the car and put it on a tree when I was done with the photos. However, after we went to Target and came back, there were so many crawling over our tires that we weren't able to save them all.
It's a tussock moth caterpillar! I'm a bit of a bug geek myself. :) Unfortunately in this case (as with many moths, really) the caterpillar is more interesting than the adult moth. :)
I wondered if that's what it was, but I wasn't entirely certain. Do you ever go on that website? It's amazing (and terrifying! Bugs scare me) to see the variety of creatures that live in this world.
Oh yes, I like that site and bugguide.net, which also has a good ID Request section. Nothing to be afraid of with most bugs, though! Really, only a small fraction bite or sting, and an even tinier amount can do any actual damage to you (barring an extreme allergy, of course). The variety really is amazing, and the world just wouldn't get along without 'em.
But I'll still freely admit that I vastly prefer butterflies and dragonflies and ladybugs to ants and termites and cockroaches. :)
What a cool little guy! (I too have stopped in my tracks to take a picture of a caterpillar. Mine was crawling across the sidewalk at school. I'm sure anyone who saw me thought I was a little odd.)

Still, thank you, most are shocked to discover it's a camera phone.

It'll be three years old in July and I wish it could live forever.

I love caterpillars! That one looks pretty big. I hope it held on tight and didn't fall off!

Both for the compliment and finding it for me.

But I am a catch-and-release gal, or at least, "Ignore until they hopefully go away" gal.
As long as I can't really see them, they don't bother me too much, lol!
