The Bounty

Photobucket

This was my mom's first sight of The Bounty in 1969. We saw her many times alongside the Pier in St. Petersburg. Many of you saw her as the Edinburgh Trader in Dead Man's Chest and the pirate ship in Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie.

It sunk today.

The captain went down with his ship.

My prayers are with his family, that of the other crew mate they lost and everyone else suffering from Sandy.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My thoughts go out to them as well.

Saw that, very sad indeed. Has it been determined just why in the world they decided sailing into a hurricane would be a good idea?

Actually, here's a story.. http://www2.tbo.com/news/breaking-news/2012/oct/29/10/tall-ship-former-st-pete-attraction-abandoned-off-ar-547646/

I guess they were headed down here to St. Pete and just misjudged the size and power of Sandy, and then their engines failed so they couldn't get out of the way fast enough. Still sad.

It wasn't a crew-member that they lost, it was a tourist from Oklahoma ( from Vian, OK to be precise ). They found her in the water & rescued her but she was brain-dead.

It says they were all crew. No tourists.

That is so sad. I've just watching the news reports on the storm now and it looks terrible.

That's terrible. I guess the captain did the honorable thing, but it's just so sad.
