Extended edition of The Hobbit

So, it's been confirmed that there will be The Hobbit extended edition which is why I haven't bought it yet.

However, we all know from Lord of the Rings that they'll come out with a deluxe box set after the third film so I'm thinking of waiting for that.

*nods* I'm definitely waiting for the extended set; with LotR I have both the normal and extended editions but I hardly watch the former really, so it makes sense to just wait for the prettiest of all with this trio.

I haven't even seen The Hobbit yet, but it makes sense to wait to buy the extended set. I also have both the theatrical and extended LOTRs, and we always watch the extended version. I frankly wonder why I'm hanging on to the other DVDs.

I have the theatrical and extended sets for the LOTR films. And I watch them for entirely different reasons.

The theatrical films I watch when I want to dip my toe into the world.

The extended editions, which I do one disc a night over a week, like an old school mini-series, are for when I want to be immersed.

Definitely both.

Speaking of extended editions, Disney released an extended edition of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe many years ago, in imitation of the LOTR extended editions. Don't bother. It adds twenty more minutes of New Zealand landscape and people walking. Not worth the effort to track down.
