DOCTOR WHO ON COMMUNITY!!!!!

They call it "Inspector Spacetime" but they're totally spoofing Doctor Who. It's even mentioned as "being a British Scifi show that's been around since 1962".

DOCTOR WHO ON COMMUNITY!!!!!

*squee*

They even showed a "clip" with fake Daleks and a sort of Tom Baker looking "Inspector".

This season's going to be AWESOME.

I... is this for real??

ZOMG MODE.

Although how many people will actually get it? I know exactly one American outside of fandom who watches the show. Of course, I also know exactly one person outside of fandom who watches Community. But in general I've always felt like DW was more of a UK thing, and even then I'm not sure how popular it is in the UK.

Of course, they might just do what they've done in the past and heavily parody one thing but also parody other things.

Community has a pretty big geek following actually...

As for how mainstream Doctor Who is, I've found toys at Toys'R'us and both toys and shirts at FYE. Plus, BBCA always shows a TON of Doctor Who commercials during the Daily Show and Colbert Report right before the season premieres.

Yeah, it was standard Community jokiness, not as much as their made up British Cougartown.

They're totally stealing my idea for the American show "Professor What"

I had no idea you watched Community!

[identity profile] ericadawn16.livejournal.com 2011-09-23 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't think I've done an entry before and I guess it just never came up?

The music in the "Inspector" clip was very Doctor Who-ish, too. I also loved the spoof on 2001: A Space Odyssey. Community has GOT to be one of the best-written shows on TV.

Even the logo was VERY similar to the old one. Sometimes, I can't get into it as much but when they do stuff like this...so AWESOME.

Have you ever watched The Sarah Silverman Program?

[identity profile] amerally.livejournal.com 2011-09-23 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I haven't. Is her humor similar? My favorite comedies besides Community are 30 Rock and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Past comedy faves are Coupling (of course) and Arrested Development, among others.

Hmm, Sunny in Philadelphia would probably be closest...
A lot of people felt it was tacky and sometimes it did go a little far but I like black humor so I thought it was hilarious.

Anyway, the real point is that it had a Doctor Who parody, Dr. Lazer Rage and he was played by CHRIS ECCLESTON!!!! which made it that much cooler.

Ooh, you watch Community too? Awesome! And yes, the Dr. Who parody was epic.

"This is the best show I've ever seen in my entire life". XD

Hee! And to think, Community had been next on my shows-to-check-out list even before this...

& lol, Tom Baker. Now I'm gonna have to dig out the Dead Ringers spoofs
