Day 9 - If you could change one thing about any of the movies, what would it be?

JAMES!!!!

Why couldn't he have gone with Elizabeth and the pirates and then been there to lead the defectors like Murtogg and Mullroy?

I realize that in order for Elizabeth to have her Hero's Journey, all of her mentors/idols must be removed and she has to be alone. This is why Jack and Governor Swann were killed BUT Jack got to come back! Heck, even Barbossa got to come back and now he's in the Royal Navy doing James' job.

Grr.

As it is, James get the tragic life cut short with no children or lasting accomplishments to show for it, just like Sirius or Ianto and it SUCKS!
James couldn't have been much more than 32 or so. At some point, I'll have to write an AU where he's in OST after all.

ITA. Whose stoopid idea was it to kill James off? I was disappointed by the overall lack of Norrington in AWE- I did like his last scene but the death was quite silly - such an able swordsman killed by a half-coral memory-impaired undead sailor? *ugh*

Also, every one comes back from the dead BUT him? Seems quite unfair. I still have a slight hope he'll be back for PotC 5 "a la Barbossa"... A girl can dream, right?

James couldn't have been much more than 32 or so.

But the average life span of the time was about 35, so he'd have been considered to be rather old for the day. ;)

For that matter, Elizabeth would've pretty much been an old maid at the time of her marriage. heh

Why do they always kill off the Royal Navy guys??? First James and now Gillette and Groves apparently?

Although I did enjoy Barbossa being a Captain in the Navy. It was funny! I think they could have continued it to see how far Barbossa could have pushed his lieutenants once he went back to pirating. After all, he IS the Captain and they're supposed to follow his orders. It would be an interesting situation.

They pretty much proved that they can bring dead characters back to life. So why not James? How would James react to the fact that Barbossa was a captain in the Navy? That he was influencing Groves & Gillette? Jack certainly thought James very well how to be a pirate...

And if Elizabeth can't be with Will, why can't she have James?

And why couldn't he have gone with her on the Empress? It was clear earlier in AWE he was not happy. I think his "new" job was not what he had expected at all.

Maybe they will bring Groves and/or Gillette back in movie 5.

Until proven otherwise, I say he and Elizabeth are together raising her son until Will gets back.
