Agent Philip Coulson
Aug. 8th, 2013 07:31 pmNot everyone was my friend two years ago so...
I wasn't always obsessed with Coulson. He slowly sneaked up on me. I liked him but he wasn't a huge deal. Then, in June 2011, mom and I went to Mr. Popper's Penguins. It disappointed us. The penguins were cute but it wasn't as funny as we thought and something was up with the bad guy. We both expressed how it felt wrong that the bad guy was still bad at the end. We wanted him to be good and if we're both left with that impression, then that leaves a very good question.
WHY?
It was a good bet that we knew that actor from something else and that was clouding our feelings, making this villainous role seem wrong. I consulted IMDB on my phone and discovered he'd been in all things Marvel lately as Agent Coulson.
Then, the next month, they started buzzing on the internet about "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer".
From the very first footage they showed from it, I knew I was in love. I liken it to 2003 and the Pirates of the Caribbean fandom. From July 2003-December 2003, Commodore Norrington was Norrington. Fandom knew little else so we even had to make up what his first name was. Then, the DVD was released and we learned his first name was James. Thus, he was James from then on.
Now, even though Phil says his name is Phil in the very first Iron Man, it was this Marvel one shot short film that made people take notice of Coulson and even start calling him Phil.
So, if you wondered what the fuss over Coulson is/was, this is it here:
