125 years ago today, the Tampa Bay Hotel first opened!

I fell in love with the building when I was quite young and I watched Queen Elizabeth on its veranda on the television.

Thirteen and a half years later, I picked up my university diploma in that same spot.

I love that building and everything in it:

Reminds me of Seville. Who does that statue represent?

A friend of mine use to teach there. Did you take any math classes with Dr Dove?

It is actually Rosalind from As You Like It when she's disguised as a boy. Behind her is another statue depicting Esmeralda and Djali from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, both are from the 1880s...but have been reupholstered numerous times since they're still in use just like in 1891. When I was a student, the fabric was boring, leather I think, but I love the floral design I found when I took this.

No, I heard great things about him but I failed the math portion of our entrance exams. They wanted me to do remedial math but I refused since I majored in Communications...why would I need math, right?

Instead, I took Statistics from Emilio Toro. The class was half math, half history as we learned about how the Founding Fathers decided on the electoral college and different ways of counting up votes and which citizens would matter.

Toro is this awesome guy from Venezuela with an extremely thick accent that I understood perfectly but others in my class would complain constantly and blame him for why they weren't passing.

I also have a soft spot for him because he was my only non Major/Minor professor who told me how much he enjoyed my movie reviews each week, especially Punch Drunk Love. It meant a lot to me that I wasn't just another face in his class.
