Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

I saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows a few weeks ago.

I was looking forward to this, honestly. It looked like they were trying for more fun while being a little more true to the source materials. Plus, there was Stephen Amell.

First of all, unlike the first time we had a second TMNT sequel, there was no free puzzle foldout! I think I still have mine somewhere. I know I saw it 5 years ago or so when I was going through stuff.

It did try to be more like the animated series and they seemed more comfortable writing the turtles without being complete stereotypes but...

April is still frustrating. They had her stealing things and just... (sigh)
Like why did they have Will Arnett take all the credit instead of April? Is it because a male would be more believable?

Was Tyler Perry's character supposed to be an evil Neil deGrasse Tyson?

This actually had Laura Linney and not Laura Linney in like two crap scenes like they did Whoopi in the first one but Laura Linney was actually IMPORTANT! I was impressed...you know for a good 3-5 seconds.

Karai is still utterly wasted.

Casey had some fun parts but this definitely isn't Arrow. I have nothing against Tommy Gavin's brother/beeper man but I think the bartender should have been the original Casey. Dammit, Judith Hoag filmed a cameo and was cut.

I love how mutant creatures can just board airplanes whenever they want in this universe...I don't care that they're sneaking into the cargo hold. They're Ninjas, but they're still large turtles...really?

When they did Muhammad Ali's quote without attributing, I definitely cringed since he had JUST died.

I thought Krang was pretty good. It made me think how they could do MODOK in the Marvel films which used to seem ridiculous but not anymore, lol.

I feel like there could have been a good metaphor about when you're born a certain way or become physically deformed, people should accept you instead of you having to change for them but then...they still decide to live in the shadows so I don't like that message at all.

Yeah, that message does leave a lot to be desired.

I love the new Nickelodeon cartoon so much (though I have fallen very far behind) and I just can't bring myself to see any of the new live action movies. Just...Michael Bay, blargh. Sounds like I have made the right choice! (plus I have a soft spot for the 90s movie...I still quote it LOL)

I usually don't like to admit it but...the new Nickelodeon cartoon is actually probably the best. I love what they've done with Karai.

Like why would they think that was okay to do in a children's film?

It would probably be okay in a family setting when you're able to pause and discuss what's going on if needed.

I just saw BFG last night, and I would give it an A- maybe a B+. The ending was a bit cheesy, but otherwise it was quite good. :) Too bad it's a box office dud. :(

I know they couldn't have had helicopters swoop in, but I think Queen Victoria would have been a better choice.
If that makes sense?
Up until meeting the Queen, there really hadn't been a sense of time frame.
And other then the jacket use to belong to another child, I didn't understand why she suddenly flipped it inside out. That just kind of threw me for a moment.

Sophie's glasses were pretty modern, that was one clue. There wasn't rationing but there was plentiful electricity, that was another clue along with BFG mentioning television.

The original book was 1982 and took place in 1982 so they honored that. Dahl was a stickler for his books being EXACTLY how he wrote them. Before he died, he was in a major feud with Jim Henson over the changes to The Witches.

Plus, it was cute that 1982 was when E.T. came out and it was the same gang that did E.T....the credits even said there was an E.T. doll somewhere.

The jacket was velvet. If she got the velvet part dirty, it would NEVER be the same again!

I didn't realize that it was that new of a book.

I loved the movie The Witches. I have occasionally thought about getting the book.
