Same Book or Same Page?

Mica's mind reminded her of all the little pieces: how Jack always referred to Ianto as Iefan's daddy, how her mum had reacted the day she met him and how she had shown Jack the similarity between her brother and Iefan.

"You really are my cousin through blood," she uttered and still felt flabberghasted.

"Taddy, where Taddy?" Iefan asked and pointed at Jack's photo again.

"Your taddy had to go to Belfast for work, but he'll be back as soon as he can because he loves you," Mica tried to assure him because Jack almost never left him for this long. She set the book down and hugged him before kissing his cheek. It tasted like cherry and she realised he'd used her lipgloss, too.

There was water everywhere. The rain was worse than Cardiff. Gwen sighed, but this was one of the signs that something was very wrong. Lois and Bernie were investigating leads in another town while she and Jack had lost the creatures they were chasing. She traced her steps to find Jack unconcious. Water was trickling out of his nose. Then, her mobile rang.

"Martha," she read off the screen and answered, "Hi."

"I couldn't get ahold of Jack," Martha spoke on the other end.

"He's a bit...indisposed at the moment," Gwen explained.

"Dead?" Martha asked in a calm manner as though they were discussing recipes or something. Gwen studied his chest and shook her head.

"Almost, can't tell if he will or not, it's a tough case," she spoke and hoped her other members were okay. At least, she knew Selene was safe in her rented room with samples to examine.

"We just wanted to say goodbye. Mickey and I are taking a long-term job away from here," Martha spoke which meant they were leaving the planet. However, she had said 'long-term.'

"You're taking Mariah with you?" Gwen asked.

"Yes, we've always wanted to expose her to a lot of cultures and she seems old enough now," Martha answered and there was a cough from Jack. Water ran down his shirt. Gwen and Martha sure had different ideas of parenting. She thought she was exposing Ianto to culture by taking him to museums and Paris. Martha was taking her child to live on another world.

"How long?" she questioned.

"We should be back this summer," Martha said and they said their goodbyes. Jack coughed and tried to sit up. When he stopped, he was frowning.

"I didn't die," he said and it almost like he was disappointed. Surely not...
She helped him to his feet and said, "Come on, there's a lot to do."

It was late Sunday night and Mica was waiting for Jack to show up. He'd phoned an hour ago to say he on his way. Iefan had wanted to stay up and wait for him, but he was asleep on the couch. She was reading the latest issue of Cosmo beside him. Lula was asleep as well although she was clutching one of Jack's boots that she'd been chewing on all weekend. Mica hoped nothing dangerous was on them. Then, the front door was being unlocked.

"Sorry about being so late," Jack apologized and walked in with a limp. They'd been saving the world again.

"According to Lois, they were trying to raise Atlantis. Aww, Iefan...you tried to stay up for your taddy," Jack spoke and picked him up. His blue eyes went to Iefan's toe nails. They were blue, too. She noticed he studied her pink fingernails.

"He saw me painting mine and wanted me to do his," Mica explained.

"I suppose it was the same with the lip gloss," he said with a smirk. She'd forgotten about putting more cherry lip gloss on. He did seem to like it.

"I can take it off if you want," Mica offered and Jack hesitated for a second before speaking.

"What's the ingredients in the lip gloss?" he asked and sniffed near his mouth.
"It's all natural and I only put the polish on his toes in case he puts the fingers in his mouth," she said, defending herself although she had also taught him a new word, stained his bathroom tile and gotten puppy piss on his sheets...at least the sheets had been washed.

"I suppose it's fine unless he starts chewing on his toes," Jack spoke, "Ianto only went for it a few times and never blue like this."

There it was again. Her uncle and Jack had been lovers. She knew they've been married, but it was still weird to think of them that way. It was bad enough to think about her parents having sex. It was much preferable to think of herself and David as weird flukes of nature.

Still, Ianto and Jack had sex and Jack was pregnant as a result. Iefan was here now because of it. This was weird.

"What is it?" Jack asked, pausing at the bottom of the stairs. She was trying not to picture the young man from the photos in bed with Jack and painted toenails.

"I looked at the baby book," she explained and he nodded.

"It is on the coffee table. Iefan and I like looking through it."

Did David know? Had he sorted it all out? She knew her mum had to know. She and Jack were too close not to know and the way her mum had looked at the park that day: so angry and sad at the same time.

"No, I mean I found the...the special page," she rambled and twisted the magazine in her hands.

"Oh," Jack uttered and sat back down beside her, "Do you have any questions?"

She had so many questions that it was more a matter of what could she actually ask?

"Is it because of the time traveling thing?" she questioned and tried not to think about the mechanics of it.

"Sort of, I'm from the future when both sexes can get pregnant equally. The gene pool is different then and it leads to some changes," Jack spoke while caressing Iefan's blond curls. In his time, male pregnancy was normal and there were lots of them. She took a moment to process this.

"So, you knew it could happen," Mica uttered and watched him study his son for a few seconds.

"I knew it had been possible but I didn't think it could still be possible. Alice and my other children on Earth have all been through others. Iefan was a first," Jack told her in what seemed like words that had been carefully picked. She let that go rather than upset him. Both seemed to want to say more yet neither spoke. As the impasse continued, Jack stood up.

"If you get your stuff, I can drive you back," he offered and she nodded. Lula cocked open an eye, spotted Jack and jumped up to welcome him.

Alice had Lucia on her lap in front of the computer. She had taught her daughter where to click for the next photo. They were on the photos from December so it was only a matter of time before her dad appeared.

"Iefan," Lucia acknowledged and Alice smiled.

"Yep," she agreed, "that's...that's your cousin."

The bed creaked behind them and she saw Thomas was frowning.

"Mica!" Lucia cried on another picture and Alice shook her head at how she was more pleased at Iefan's cousin than Iefan. Then, there was a photo of just her and Jack. She sighed. He'd been phoning and she hadn't answered any of them.

"I want to play Barbies now," Lucia said and crawled down. Alice nodded and Thomas spoke, "She'll be there in a few minutes, but you can come up with the story."

She hoped what was coming wasn't what she thought was coming.

"Are we going to keep telling her that Iefan is her cousin?" Thomas asked and moved so he sat on the edge of their bed. Sometimes, she wished he could just let things go.

"It's easier than explaining he's her uncle," she said and rubbed her hands over her belly.
"We should have discussed this together before you told her that in the first place," her husband complained, trying to get her to take his hand.

"We can't discuss every decision about her together. Some things have to be done right away. We have to be able to trust each other's judgement," she said and he sighed.

"That's fine with food or clothes or things, but this was important. Now, she either grows up believing a lie or we have to tell her later that we lied to her," Thomas told her and she stretched, but it didn't help her back pain.

"At that point, I wasn't even sure I wanted to see him again or have a relationship with Iefan," Alice admitted. It was why she hadn't phoned him back. She loved Iefan and a toddler shouldn't be punished for his father's affairs, but she hated how complicated Jack always made everything.

"But they're your papa and brother, I know you have issues, but family is stronger than that, yes?" asked Thomas with a confused expression.

"Right...of course," she agreed in the hope it might make him feel better.

"I just want us to be on the same book..."

"Same page," she corrected without thinking.

"That we will discuss everything important with the children together," Thomas pleaded and she saw his point since they would have two to worry about in just six months.

"Okay," she agreed and took his hand.
