Mickey

Name: ericadawn16
Story Title: Mickey
Show: Dr. Who
Character/Relationships: Mickey/Rose, Mickey/Martha
Rating:PG-13
Warnings: nope

"Mickey! Mickey, I thought you were going to fix that stair," his grandmother's voice came out of the open door before he could shut it. He sighed and opened the door so she could see him.

"I'm seeing Rose. I'll do it tonight," he said and when she frowned at him because she'd been asking for a few days now, he added, "I promise."

Her lips pursed tighter and her brown eyes made his stomach twist into knots, but Rose had to work in an hour and a half. Tomorrow, she'd already be at work when he got off. He was almost tempted to say he loved her which tended to make women more pleasant. Instead, he heard Rose call, "Mickey" and he shut the door. They walked to the park nearby and he laid his jacket on the grass so they wouldn't get too dirty. They lay next to each other and he looked at the blue sky with fluffy clouds. For once, it wasn't raining.

"Someday, we're going to get out of here, get someplace nice," Mickey told her, "Maybe even a gate and everything."
Rose's laughter joined the kid's screaming and the busy traffic.

"But don't you ever want to travel? See the world?" she asked when she'd finished in a soft voice. He used to think that way, but what was the use? No one from their neighbourhood ever got out of this three mile radius, much less London. Why set yourself up for failure? Rose was earnest in her sentiment though. There was only one way he could think of to change the subject. He leaned over and kissed her. Her lips met his and they kept going, as far as they could in the wide open. Mickey wasn't sure how much time had passed when they heard sirens. It wasn't the police, but an ambulance. They sat up to watch it enter their road and heard it slow down.

"It stopped," Rose stated and he nodded before they stood up. He took his jacket and they hurried to see what had happened. As soon as they turned the corner and he saw it parked in front of his house, Mickey ran. He didn't stop until he reached the entrance where he was stopped by a paramedic.

"Sir, you can't go there," the man spoke in an authoritarian voice.

"But I'm her grandson!" Mickey complained and the paramedic shook his head.

"Let them work. There's nothing you can do," he said and Mickey looked around to see his gran's friend, Jane. She was sobbing into a tissue and Mickey felt his stomach harden. He knew the truth but didn't want to think it. One of the other paramedics came out of their house, shaking her head.

"There's nothing we could have done with a head trauma like that, must have fallen down the stairs," she spoke before the first man glared at her.

"Dell, this is her grandson," the male paramedic spoke and everything became a blur to Mickey as his life changed forever...again.

Rose didn't love him. He knew that, but he couldn't entirely accept it. They'd known each other forever and been going out on and off for six years. He'd thought she would always be there. Then, she'd met the Doctor and changed: facing evil aliens, world destruction and befriending a man with more naked stories than Mickey had thought possible. It was a world he wasn't really a part of and probably never could be so why couldn't he let her go?

Trisha Delaney might have been a lie, but she'd say yes if he asked her. He just hated giving up on Rose. Rose was the reason he hadn't been there. If only he'd fixed that stair the first time she'd asked except he didn't. He put it off and he wasn't there and she fell. It was his fault.
However, he knew part of him blamed his relationship with Rose and if they didn't make it, wouldn't she have died for nothing? Still, he should have expected this. Everyone left him in the end. His mum existed in photographs, he could barely remember his dad and his grandmother was dead. Why should Rose be any different?
He leaned against the railing that kept him from falling into the water around Cardiff and watched the TARDIS fade away.

Daleks, it always had to be Daleks. Mickey connected the wires on his end as his partner did her part. Just as he was about to announce finishing, she declared, "Done!"
Then, she held out her hand. A deal was a deal and they had agreed that the first person to finish could push the button. The ground shook under the ferocity of the electromagnetic pulse. They couldn't talk their way out of trouble the way the Doctor could, but they could use technology. He'd learned a lot in that parallel world. Not only was he pretty good with guns and circuitry, but he could live without Rose. Now she was stuck on one planet and he was traveling the galaxy.

Mickey had ended up on the floor from the earthquake and Martha had ended up in his arms. Not for the first time did he have to remind himself she was married. With her perfect teeth, smooth skin and abounding kindness, it was easy to forget especially when he was back on Earth.

"Don't think that could have gone any better," Martha spoke and started to move to get to her feet. An impulse struck Mickey. He tried to talk himself out of it. What would Tom think? She was on her knees and rising. Mickey put a hand on her side as if to guide her up. Instead, he kissed her. He half-expected her to pull away. However, it lasted a full minute before she stopped him. When she did, she jumped to her feet with her fingers on her lips. Then, she kissed him.

But I Rather Like Hope

Name: ericadawn16
Show: Dr. Who/Torchwood
Story Title: Anwen
Character/Relationships: Amy/Rory Gwen/Rhys
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Spoilers for "Children of Earth" and "The Big Bang"

"But I rather like hope. Hope's a good emotion," the Doctor said with a nod.

"Emotion? Yes. Baby name? No," Gwen answered firmly and shook her head with a hand caressing her belly. "Do not let this one name your children. He's bollocks at it."

"I'll keep that in mind," said the ginger he'd introduced as Amy. She had made a point not to make eye contact with her husband, Rory. Gwen had to smile. She knew that look; that I'm not ready for children yet look.

"And what does Rhys want to name her?" the Doctor asked, leaning against her dining room table. For a moment, she was thrown by the absurdity of it all. His appearance was so different than when she'd seen him last. The Doctor looked like he should still be at university and he was in her house with two strangers having tea and biscuits as though nothing had happened.

"He fancies Anwen. I'm thinking about it," she spoke and decided she couldn't take it anymore. "Why'd you come?"

"What? I can't..." he started to argue and she frowned so he stopped. Amy's expression became curious.

"Tell me about Torchwood."

"What is there to tell? It's a fairy tale now. The Hub's gone. I don't even speak with Archie anymore," she replied and was comforted by the movement of her daughter. "I don't suppose you've spoken with Jack?"

His green eyes looked so old.

"Not exactly," he admitted, "I can feel him still out there but we really haven't...talked."

The only sounds in the room were the ticking of the clock and Rory munching on biscuits.

"When it happened..."

"It's you, I don't need an explanation."

"Because..."

"I don't want one either," she said with more force than she intended. Amy had moved closer to her husband.

"Those are Rhys' favorite," Gwen spoke and nodded at the biscuits Rory was eating.

"You said his name was Williams. Maybe they're related," said Amy with a smile.

"And the Rift?" the Doctor asked, back to business.

"Just sealed up one day, thought that must be you," Gwen muttered, "and with it gone, not much sense for Jack to stay around, was there?"

It was hard with just her and Rhys knowing the full extent of what happened. Rhiannon never answered when she tried to phone her.

"Perhaps it's time to leave," the Doctor suggested and Amy stood up. Rory took several biscuits in his hand and drank the rest of his cup. Gwen led them out to front door where the Tardis stood waiting on the lawn.

"Torchwood will come back," the Doctor whispered and for a moment, she stopped. Torchwood used to mean everything to her before it all went wrong.

"Does it have to?" she asked.

"As much as I hate to admit...the future of humanity depends on it," he uttered with a sigh. He stepped over the threshold and she stopped him.

"Doctor, if you see him..." Gwen started and tried to think what to say: how sorry she was about what happened, that she couldn't imagine what he was going through, how she thought of them every day, how sometimes the smell of coffee made her sad?

"Tell him to come round for tea," she finished, "maybe meet the baby."

"Will do," he agreed, "and Gwen? I know you'll find your hope again."
