A bill designed to thwart a lawsuit challenging the state's refusal to increase Florida's minimum wage cleared a House committee Tuesday.

Redistricting

This is the one I really care about and I can't find anything. Last I heard, they were still fighting on whether to give us the fair districts we voted for last November. Gerrymandering might not be legal but they have figured out a way in Florida and they want to keep it that way. It's why my representative's office is an hour away BY INTERSTATE! My district even includes The Villages even though they are two hours away! How is someone supposed to have adequate representation that way?

No wonder my last representative always said how all her constituents were elderly veterans who believed in "traditional" values.

I have not made it past the introduction. It is a LENGTHY introduction with SPOILERS!

Naturally, in books that are over a hundred years old, they are not so considerate as to put SPOILER WARNING! at the beginning.

I did find it really interesting to read about the different factions and their approaches to getting slavery abolished. It reminded me a lot of gay rights and the debate over how that should be done.

Even the "heroes" come off so freaking racist which is to be expected for that period in time but there's still a lot of epic *facepalm*.

One of them just described how slaves were childlike before saying how good it was that they weren't educated since "they would take" their liberty.
