NFL Lock-Out
Nov. 13th, 2011 07:06 pmSo, Mike Fasano would be on my small list of Republican politicians who actually try to do good for their community instead of just worrying about looking good.
The newest bill Mike Fasano introduced?
END THE NFL BLACK-OUTS!
I know, it's not going to help unemployment or put more food on someone's table, BUT...
Taxpayers build those stadiums and we pay for other incentives, including tax credits which MEANS...
Taxpayers, in Florida alone, pay $166,000 per month to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars each.
Yet, it's the taxpayers that suffer when NFL blocks the showing of games that haven't sold out despite having atrocious prices and regulations that make attendance from most people simply impossible. I know my mom and I have never been to a NFL game whereas we have gone to Tampa Bay Rays games before and definitely might in the future because the prices are more affordable AND we can bring in our own food.
Under Fasano's bill, NFL teams would have to pay $125,000 each time a game is blocked out in the hopes of making it far more lucrative to make sure those tickets get sold, one way or another.
Now, that would be just for Florida and wouldn't be able to be passed until January at the earliest.
On Friday, Sports Fans Coalition filed a petition with the FCC because it's a 1975 FCC rule that allows black-outs. The SFC petition pleads for them to end this rule once and for all.
*fingers crossed*
In other taxpayer sports news, Mike Bennett, also a Florida Republican, wants to remind everyone how a 1988 rule allows for public sports stadiums to be used as homeless shelters as needed.
Unfortunately, he doesn't want this to actually be enforced or the teams to pay back the money used to build the public buildings.
He wants those cities to pay back the taxpayer money used.
*rolls eyes*
Right, like they could afford that...
