I want to put these reviews together because of who I identified with in each...
This is 40So, it's Judd Apatow which means I'm going to automatically go see it regardless of...anything. My mom definitely did NOT want to see it. It was funnier than I was expecting for a movie about a couple turning forty in the midst of family problems.
Now, I'm thirty so I'm only ten years away and there are a lot of similar issues between turning thirty and forty. However, who did I relate to the most?
The 13 year old daughter who wants only one thing...to watch the very last episodes of
Lost and everyone else keeps getting in her way. I never gave it much thought before which is strange because Lost used to be huge part of my world. I started watching in college and later as work complicated things, my main purpose for getting a DVR was Lost.
This is 40 made me remember what I used to love about Lost.

At one point, they actually show those last moments of Lost. When I saw this on the big screen...I cried all over again.
I thought this showed a real growth in Megan Fox's acting but I'm still scared about her playing April O'Neil...April is supposed to be more of an every woman that we could all achieve if we could only just meet mutated pet turtles who are teenaged and know martial arts...
The InternshipThis is basically about forty year olds and young twenty-somethings. Considering how I identified with the the 13 year old before, I expected to identify with the college students more.
But I didn't...
I may have a college degree but I have also had ten jobs in twelve years; two of which I still have. It's hard. I recently hit my two year mark which means I now have personal hours at one of my jobs. Personal hours! I have three days that I could request off AND get paid for it! This has never happened to me before.
I am also a salesman. I am very good at it but that doesn't mean I couldn't still be fired tomorrow because that's the way things are now. Being skilled or certified or experienced doesn't matter as much as who you know.
So, I felt for Billy and Nick, the forty year olds. I could easily be in their shoes. Heck, we even sell watches or try to...
I admit that part of the fun of the movie was that it was filmed at actual Google headquarters which appears to be a live action version of a Where's Waldo? book. What are the green and red telephone booths? They don't appear to have telephones in them. Why not have a blue one? What's that dinosaur skeleton and why is it next to a volleyball court?
Of course, I would have loved for more with Aasif Mandvi but he did have a really nice role...and I didn't even recognize Josh Gad at first.I keep trying to get my mom to get headphones for public but she's hesitant even though she doesn't like people bothering her during breaks.
I wonder if they had the whole Professor X joke before casting Rose Byrne or because of it?
I want all the actors playing interns to go on to more wonderful things especially Tiya Sircar who's awesome although apparently one of the guys is the one they call "Stiles" from Teen wolf? So I guess he's already successful then.
They had QUIDDITCH!
Some of the jokes actually seemed geared more towards geeks which was interesting. Typically mainstream movies assume most people don't know who or what Quidditch, Professor X and outliers are. They did partially explain Hentai though.
Anyway, Quidditch, yay! The snitch was a bit different than I've seen before but they played for Hufflepuff! Hufflepuffs rule! Plus, Aasif in a wizard's cloak, yay!
It wasn't as good as
Wedding Crashers but it was fun.
