Fantastic Beasts: And Where to Find Them
Sep. 12th, 2013 09:37 pmWarner Bros. is making more Harry Potter films.
This filled me with dread until I saw the particulars.
It's based off Fantastic Beasts: And Where to Find Them By Newt Scamander. This is an under-rated book. Yes, it's very tiny especially paired next to the massive behemoths like Half-Blood Prince but it packs a lot into it.
Also, I love magical creatures.
The screenplay will be written J.K. Rowling herself. There will be none of that deferring to other people. Unfortunately, there's still having to put up with Warner Bros. but I'm hoping they give her as much control as they Peter Jackson since he made them billions and so has she. Otherwise, I get to rage SEXISM!
It does take place 70 years before Harry Potter either came along or had adventures so sometime between 1910-1928. Either way, that's extremely exciting especially if we get into the '20s and she said New York will be involved!
Since it does place so long ago and the book isn't a linear narrative, I can watch without going, "YOU SKIPPED MY FAVORITE PART, YOU BASTARDS!!!!"
I assume that will make for a more pleasant viewing experience. Of course, as soon as Newt himself was named to be the lead character, I had an idea for how he could look...

But then, I should go look up what he's actually supposed to look like...
Or there isn't one...I just looked and it said that he started writing the book in 1918, so movie wouldn't take place before that, but I couldn't find a physical appearance.
Hmm, well, there's all sorts of awesome possibilities besides Tom Hiddleston, Colin Morgan, Dominic Cooper, Ed Westwick, Arthur Darvill...we'll just have to wait and see.
