Marvel Casting News/Opinions
Feb. 11th, 2014 11:37 pmEvangeline Lilly has been cast as the female lead in Ant-Man. Notoriousreign and others seem uncontrollably excited. I'm...
I was underwhelmed. Generally, I support the Marvel casting and Evangeline Lilly is a fine actress. It's just...
I was always a Marvel girl, but not always Avengers. In the late '80s, early '90s, you had X-Men, Spider-Man, Hulk, Thor, Punisher and the other people. Even in college, I was still solidly X-Men almost exclusively. So, my main introduction to Wasp was when I started watching The Super Hero Squad Show:

and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes:

In my head, Janet was short, spunky and not always Caucasian whereas Evangeline is 5'7 which is about four inches taller than the average woman, hasn't seemed spunky for a few years and is definitely Caucasian. My Avengers encyclopedia confirms that Janet is 5'4 although it also says that Natasha should be 5'7 and I forgave that casting immediately because of my love for Scarlett...
Prior to her being cast on this, I had finally written down all my casting possibilities for Janet and other females:
Here's my Jessica Drew list:
Evangeline Lilly
Anna Silk
Meghan Ory
Sonequa Martin-Green
Katie McGrath
Gugu Mbatha-Raw
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Michelle Dockery
Kaya Scodelario
Janet:
Lupita Nyong'o
Ksenia Solo
Allison Scagliotti
Beth Riesgraf
Ellen Wong
Angel Coulby
Alison Pill
Bobbi:
Evangeline Lilly
Danai Gurira
Miranda Raison
Léa Seydoux
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Jessica Chastain
Jessica Jones:
Sarah Bolger
Jamie Chung
Alessandra Mastronardi
Kara Hayward
Ivana Baquero
Hannah Murray
Dakota Blue Richards
Of course, there are also the people that need to be in a Marvel film but I'm not sure as who...Meagan Good, Ewan McGregor (who I was rooting for Lang), Chiwetel Ejiofor, Carey Mulligan, Mindy Kaling, Jack Davenport, Daniel Bruhl, David Oyelowo and Rinko Kikuchi. Also, if they ever have Balder, he has to be played by Liam Hemsworth...
and if we can reuse people who only had a tiny little role in the first place...Aasif Mandvi and Natalie Dormer. I also want everyone listed above who don't get that part.
For Agents of SHIELD and other Marvel tv shows, I want these people to make an appearance...
Freema Agyman, David Tennant, Arthur Darvill, Seth Green, Alyson Hannigan, anyone from The Mighty Boosh, and I think it would be cool to have Tom Hiddleston as someone completely different even if there's a twist at the end that he was Loki the whole time, but with blond/ginger curls or something.
I was tempted to put down Mark Sheppard but my headcanon is that somehow Canton Delaware is Phil's father.
Also, before Castle ends, there NEEDS to be a crossover. I kept expecting Coulson or someone to show up during that time travel episode.
Then again, I saw this photo from the premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Evangeline does have some Janet qualities there...that hair would be awesome especially if we kept Janet's love of fashion and setting her own trends.

I'd still prefer her as Bobbi though.
