Tragedies

ericadawn16: (Weird)
One of the worst superficial tragedies to happen to a person in fandom is to fall in love with a show that's ELEVEN years old, only ran for one season and doesn't seem to have a lot of fandom.

I'm talking about Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok.

I just finished all 26 episodes and I want more.
Normally, I'd go on Tumblr...
Nothing.
A03
Uh...two pages which is basically nothing.
Read all the books involved...
That appear to be only in Japanese or only available in e-book form...

(sigh)

Honestly, if I didn't know this aired in 2003, I'd think they ripped off Marvel or was a fanfiction inspired by the MCU.

In order to stop Ragnarok, Odin has exiled BOTH Thor AND Loki!
In the forms of a teenager and pre-teen!
However, Loki is mentioned fairly often for how cute he is and his adult form leaves young women swooning and fainting in his wake...hmm, like a real-life Tumblr...
Thor is also handsome and eats a LOT; bottomless pit. Some of the humor is from this while most of it is from Loki having to deal with humans or Thor or other exasperating things. Some of the episodes are absolutely hilarious.

To pass the time before he can go back and/or figure out how he can get back, Loki solves supernatural mysteries along with a normal teenage girl and his sons in disguise.
Yes, this Loki series addresses Loki's relationship with his main three children. Hel is especially important and yes, you get the gamut of emotions, including crying.

Then, in one of the last episodes, there were two characters on a broken bridge with one falling and I laughed when the character decided to fall rather than hold on.

Here is the Thor trailer using MDLR footage:

Here is a straight up trailer of the series:

I hope someone else has seen it/will see it so I can discuss it with someone.

EDITED:

Where can you watch???
Hulu has the whole thing for free, just with some annoying commercials now and then:

If you prefer not using Hulu, then TV.COM has some other places:

This is strictly the negatives. The good stuff will be in the next post.

MegaCon is only 70 miles always so in order to leave with "plenty of time" for the opening at 10 AM, we head out at...

8:30 AM

This is us at 10:59 AM, still stuck at the I-Drive Exit:

11:30 AM

We are just past the overpass you can see in the previous photo:
 photo Photo1805-Copy_zpsc6f94ecb.jpg

You can also see people who have given up and started walking. Shortly after this, Orlando decided to tell us that we were in the wrong lane all along for MegaCon and could drive to a much better, shorter exit.

12:17 PM

WE ARE HERE! FOUR HOURS after we started!

We even got half-decent parking as opposed to the people who parked miles away or at a 90 degree angle across the street.

We wondered around until we found where to get our wristbands. Then, we tried to figure out where the Torchwood panel was before asking. We were still able to get seats which was awesome especially when it was pointed out how many people were standing up in the back. To accommodate them, everyone was going to move forward.

Better seats, woohoo!

Except...

As we were orderly moving forward, the people in the back streamed forward so we stopped in place so we wouldn't be left without a seat. We basically ended up exactly where we were except a few seats more toward the center.
When the head guy thanked the back people for being so patient, I wanted to ask...Sarcasm, yes?

So, they weren't the best seats...
 photo Photo1813-Copy_zps0295f055.jpg

However, they had a large screen to see them better and I will tell all the awesome details in the next post.
Afterwards, the panel was going to be...
The Walking Dead
I'm going to let that sink in, the next panel was going to be The Walking Dead.
There was NO LINE CONTROL! The entire second floor was packed with zombies, people who wouldn't budge and us Torchwood people who just wanted to get off that floor.
There were NO CLEAR SIGNS about STAIRS or ELEVATORS or ways to get off that freaking floor so we could only see one clear way of leaving...exactly where we came.
Luckily, we got behind an awesome lady with a BIG VOICE who made people make a path for us to get by. Yes, we had to YELL and promise that we were NOT cutting, we just wanted to leave, dammit.

I saw none of my friends. I totally tried but my cellphone didn't work. Since then, I have found out only AT&T phones worked at MegaCon because the convention center has a contract with them.
I don't see how this is legal or safe but that's corporations for you. They suck and now, they want my DirectTv.

They also need more water fountains and restrooms.

My brother and I went to MegaCon and it was AWESOME!

He claimed he had no desires and wanted to do whatever I wanted.
I wanted to see the Torchwood panel. This was my main reason for wanting to go. It was originally supposed to be John Barrowman, Gareth David-Lloyd, Eve Myles, Burn Gorman and Kai Owen. Gorman and Owen dropped out but just having those first three...it's magic with them together.

You can watch the whole thing here...well, except for the erotic shadow puppetry that John and Gareth did while waiting for Eve:

I was a little worried because my brother has never seen Torchwood. He knows the older Doctor Who and a few newer ones here and there, but doesn't have BBCA. Then, the announcer started telling about how raunchy it could get and how John doesn't like to keep his clothes on and how it might not be the best panel for smaller viewers and...
I got a little worried what he must be thinking...

He laughed just as hard as I did through all the jokes and stories. He even said he might try Torchwood and definitely wanted to see more from John Barrowman, like maybe a villain role...

hehe, I do have to get him hooked on Arrow, I admit that.

Please continue contacting the BBC/BBCA/everyone in the universe about bringing back Torchwood. I admit I was a bit done after the last one, but this panel really made me remember why I liked it so much in the first place. Gareth was also very adamant about bringing him back.

I know, I know, he's supposed to be dead but that's also what they said about Coulson and Barbossa AND they claimed Rose would never be back...I'm good with technicalities.
In the meantime, I really hope Gareth will be on Arrow at some point.

Afterwards, when we finally were able to get downstairs, we wondered around the main floor. It was amazing; not just the experience but when I last attended MegaCon in 2002, that main floor was IT. You had the celebrities, the gaming, everything in one room. It's grown so much.

In fact, on that Saturday, they had 87,000 attend. To put that in perspective, Magic Kingdom usually only gets 50,000 visitors per day and they're not crammed into a three-story building.

Brother and I found the celebrities. We didn't wait in line but we loved just being in the same vicinity as John Barrowman, Jon Heder, Eliza Dushku, James Marsters and David Morrissey!
The rest had all been at conventions before but I'd never seen David Morrissey appearing at one before. He's been awesome sauce on top of awesome sauce (Blackpool, Doctor Who, State of Play, The Other Boleyn, Sense & Sensitivity). I was a little saddened that the majority of the line was holding The Walking Dead stuff. Did they not know him before that??

They had a wonderful Lego exhibit. You can learn more about it here:
http://www.gflug.org/project-tampa.htm
I like to think the University of Tampa is just on the other side of the table where people are walking, hehe.

I guess I'm a little short for a stormtrooper?

Skottie Young was there. It was so awesome to see him after loving all his stuff. He drew the Nick Fury in the icon. I had finally found the variant for Secret Avengers where Natasha, Clint and Phil are all tied up together so he signed that. He was so tired. I felt a little bad for him because he was trying to be nice. He wasn't charging for autographs. He simply wanted people to donate to the charity that helps comic book creators in need, but people were taking advantage of that. The guy in front of me was obviously a dealer who made him sign a THICK stack. There were a good 15-20 comics in that stack.

Then, we tracked down Silent Bob's Secret Stash. This was the other big reason I wanted to come. In 2002, the BIG media guest was Kevin Smith, but he had his buddies with him, Bryan Johnson and Walt Flanagan. I had all three sign my Jay & Silent Bob cover of Star Wars Insider even though Bryan and Walt seemed embarrassed that anyone would even want them to sign anything.

Now, Walt and Bryan have their own show and most of them were there. I wanted Ming Chen and Frank Zapcic to sign my magazine so I'd have the whole cast of the show. It was forty dollars for everyone to sign AND a photo or thirty dollars just for Ming and Frank. However, they were INCREDIBLY NICE!!! Almost no one paid the forty dollars but almost everyone got a photo anyway as long as they had their own camera. They were very surprised and impressed by Walt's signature and wanted to know how I had it because he'd stayed home and stays home most of the time it seems. I doubt too many people take 12 years to get autographs in the Viewaskewniverse. I'd still like to get Jason Mewes.

At this point, brother admits that what he really wanted to do at MegaCon was meet Stan Lee.

Uh oh...

I mean, they had that whole pre-order and stuff which apparently my brother didn't read and/or understand. Still, if that's what he wanted most in the whole world and we only had about an hour left before close, I'd do my best to accommodate. We tracked him down to a series of rooms that were closed off. You could only enter with a special ticket and they were all sold out. My brother was starting to do his freak out; not helped by not bringing drinks or food. I made sure I had my Vitamin Water. I wasn't going to be satisfied until we at least SAW Stan Lee. I scoped the area and discovered the last set of doors had a clear view. The attendant at the door smiled at me, "You want to see him, right?"
I nodded and motioned for brother to come over. We saw him. He was older and more tired than I remembered from his Thor cameo but it was him. We could now say for the rest of our lives that we saw Stan Lee in person.
I think he still wants to actually MEET him so hopefully, next year. *fingers crossed*

All the cosplay was awesome. I think there should be a cosplay bingo or scavenger hunt at these things:
Female He-Man? Check.
TARDIS made out of a wheelchair? Check
Steampunk pilot with large retractable wings? Check.
Ghostbuster with real "working" pack? Check

However, this group was one of my favorites especially since...when do you ever get to see Frigga?

I also want it to be known that Sif and Loki had to be told to stop flirting in order to take the photo.
