I love Paul Rudd and have since Clueless so we're talking like twenty years. However, he has made some really awful stuff...stuff I paid to see...stuff like Admission.
I love Marvel but I learned a hard lesson at the age of three and a half...some Marvel films might be boring and awful, like Howard the Duck.
I wanted to support Ant-Man for one main reason:
Cassie Lang
Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang which makes sense. Hank Pym's plotline can be very squicky in the actual comics, or how my nephews put it, "Why is he so CRAZY???"
However, Paul Rudd has described his character as a thief and the film as a heist film.
*facepalm*
You've just described Guardians of the Galaxy. The most important part to Lang's character, what makes him tick and makes him so likable isn't his charm or sarcasm...again, we have Peter Quill for that...it's because Lang is doing it FOR HIS DAUGHTER!!!!!
Dammit.
So, Cassie has been written out as his reason for living, okay...maybe she could show up later, showing how the powers could be passed on genetically.
Except they have that covered already with Hope van Dyne played by Evangeline Lilly and destined to be the new Wasp. She's the daughter of Ant-Man.
You can probably see my thought processes here, like Marvel is going to think they really need TWO daughters of Ant-Man.
Cassie Lang is never going to happen and with that realization, I have finally come to the side of my mom, "Why are they even making this movie? No one cares except the hard core comic fans."
I have this horrible feeling that five years from now, it'll be like "Runaways" is now and Marvel will pretend that "Young Avengers" never existed.
