Bloodlines

Bloodlines by Claudia Gray came out today. I haven't read it yet but...

It's Leia Organa before the Resistance came into being. It also has Korr Sella...which is a good thing considering she was cut out of Star Wars: The Force Awakens except for her DEATH!

It's supposed to be about 6 years before Star Wars: The Force Awakens and some stuff is nice like getting into Leia's head and having the nice stuff between her and Han.

The idea seems to be that she surrounds herself with young people (her staff tend to skew young) and mothers and supports them in the absence of her own son.

I've been saying this between her and Poe for over four months now so it's nice to see further evidence.

Okay, that's the good stuff but Ben is 23 and not Kylo Ren yet. He's also 23 and doesn't know his grandfather is Darth Vader.

REALLY?

But Han is written in both novelizations as thinking how he hadn't seen his son as an adult. Unless we're using the Hobbit definition, 23 is an adult.

thefordcastpodcast:
Reason the novel says Han hasn’t seen Kylo since he was young is the script changed after it was sent to the writer. Pablo Hildago said to take them w/ a grain of salt - the movies are canon. Since BL has direct input from Rian about story we assume it is a far better reflection of canon for 8/9 going forward. Hope that helps. JJ said Rian asked him to change a few things & reflect his story - JJ said yes to a few. Maybe a change was made so Adam could play flashbacks. Filmmaking is a process :)

So, what they're saying is that in their race to get out merchandise...the authors haven't even read the final scripts! The directors are free to change canon from film to film and universal canon means about as much as it does in Doctor Who?

Because if the books don't actually mean anything compared to the films, they're asking us to pay up to $28.00 for fanfiction.

This also pisses me off because of Kes Dameron and Shara Bey. They are two of my favorite characters BUT they ONLY exist in books and if books don't matter like the films, do they exist at all?

And why should I read 352 pages of people being mean to Leia while she tries to go on by remembering when times were better? I don't want sad Leia. I want Leia being awesome.

I might still read Bloodlines but if I do, it'll be from the library.

P.S. May the Fourth be with you!

I'm very proud of the land of my ancestors and extended family!

Especially considering how many times my mom has mentioned the phrase "roll over in their graves" or "they would have died" about my grandparents and this election...she briefly considered maybe Indiana had changed since she moved, but I reminded her the BBC had referred to it as an "Evangelical bastion".

My grandmother and aunt were dead before Obama was elected but my grandfather held on for 14 months of Obama presidency before dying.
