I took a prompt for The Torchwood Gen Fic Frolic but then, I had some problems fulfilling that prompt. There were a couple of stories my betas vetoed.
These are those stories:
Title: Play Date
Author: Ericadawn16
Characters: Ianto, Gwen
Rated: PG-13 ANGST MPREG AU
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Summary: Ianto arrives at Gwen's for their weekly playdate.
Play Date
Ianto knocked on the door, not sure what he would find on the other side.
"Oh, Ianto, I'm so glad you came! I thought maybe you weren't," Gwen spoke, throwing his arms around him.
"I had thought the confirmation text might be a clue," he said as she let go.
"Right," she agreed and reached down to Jace's level.
"I want a biscuit," the four year old announced.
"Go, Anwen and Beth already have some out," she said and walked inside. Ianto and his son followed after her. He felt like he should say something, but nothing too personal.
"I love what you've done with the decor," he remarked of the various baskets scattered around. Gwen sighed and crossed her arms.
"I'm up to my elbows in baked goods, fruit baskets and flowers and it's not even my mum that died," she said but he could tell it bothered her.
"How's Rhys?"
Gwen played with her ring.
"He's...as best as can be expected. I know I should be there with him, but a funeral's no place for the girls and I'm not going to leave them with my parents...again," Gwen said, looking towards the kitchen. Ianto couldn't help smiling at the memory. Anwen had come back with pierced ears.
"We should check on the kids," he suggested before Anwen came running out.
"Mummy! Jace said girls are rubbish!" she wailed and started to cry. Thank God Jack wasn't here. He'd probably start crying just watching her.
"Jace! Jace, get out here!" Ianto called in his best voice of authority. Jace took his own sweet time doing it. He'd seen space whales that were faster. "Did you call Anwen rubbish?"
"No," Jace said, shaking his head, "I said girls were."
There was the sound of stifled laughter from Gwen's direction.
"Well, regardless, you made Anwen cry so you have to apologise," Ianto spoke, "say you're sorry."
Jace made no move to do so. His face was as stubborn as he knew his own could be sometimes.
"Jace..."
"Fine," the boy said and turned to Anwen, "sorry."
"Okay," Anwen agreed and let go of Gwen.
"Lego! Lego!" Beth screamed with half a biscuit in her hand.
"Lego would be cool," Jace agreed and the three headed for the playroom.
"Must be boys at school," Ianto said, surprised at what happened. Jace and Anwen were only four months apart and usually got on quite well. "Still, that'll be fixed soon enough."
"Oh?" Gwen asked before a smile came on her face, "It's a girl?"
"Two," he said, still adjusting to saying it, "Martha did the ultrasound for us yesterday."
"Oh, Ianto, that's wonderful," Gwen said and hugged him again. "You've always been so good with my girls," she spoke, "and Jace will come around."
She was fiddling with her ring again.
"How about Jack and I take the girls so you can be with Rhys?" Ianto suggested. For a moment, she looked at him as though he might take it back, but he didn't.
"I hope it won't be too much trouble with Jack pregnant and all. I'll go put together a bag, thank you love" she said and went into a hall cupboard. He'd deal with Jack later.
Title: Anwen
Author: Ericadawn16
Characters: Ianto, Gwen
Rated: PG-13 ANGST
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Summary: Ianto and Gwen have a talk between Day Two and Day Three of COE.
Anwen
Ianto sat on the grass looking up at the stars. He tried to remember which constellations had planets and which aliens he had met. Which one had created the 456? He didn't know. He just wished they'd go back there to stay. He heard leaves crunch beside him and saw Gwen sit down.
"Couldn't sleep either?" he asked and she shook her head.
"Of course, he's out like a rock," Gwen spoke and nodded back to her small tent.
"He is, too," Ianto said and shook his head. Jack was usually such a light sleeper, maybe an hour or two at the most, but then, he normally wasn't blown up and encased in concrete. Ianto didn't want to think about it.
"Those were some impressive shoplifting skills," Gwen whispered and he shrugged.
"Used to nick stuff when I was a kid, spent some time for it," Ianto revealed. Sometimes, he'd tell Gwen the lies that made everything better, like his dad being a master tailor. Tonight, he felt like telling the truth. There was something in the air. Something was going to happen. Well, there was a time table set. The aliens would speak to the world tomorrow or later today. He checked his watch and saw that it was after midnight.
"It's just our typical the world is going to end situation, yeah? Then, we'll muddle our way through somehow?" Gwen asked and those had been his fears as well. Lies were on the tip of his tongue but they wouldn't pass his lips.
"I don't know," he admitted and the admittance had allowed a foreboding to grow in his body. Gwen took his hand and he gave her a smile.
"But afterwards...afterwards, we'll have to throw you a party," he said and looked away again.
"I'm not even sure I'm keeping it. Probably been exposed to all sorts of things already...and Torchwood...well...it's no place for a baby, not really," Gwen spoke and he turned enough so she could spot him rolling his eyes.
"You will, you'll keep it," Ianto spoke with no doubt in his mind.
"Haven't even thought up names, I never did that as a girl. All the other girls, they were always discussing what they'd name their kids; I just wanted to play football or climb a tree. Mum didn't know what to do with me," she said with a small giggle.
A memory came into Ianto's mind from a previous camping trip. His expression must have given it away.
"You've thought of names, haven't you? For you and Jack?" Gwen asked with surprise.
"No," he said and shook his head, "Lisa and I talked about it once. We were camping on the beach. She wanted James and I liked the name Anwen."
They both knew how that story ended. The words weren't necessary.
"Anwen's a good Welsh name," Gwen spoke and he felt her hand squeeze his just a little bit. "Where are we going tomorrow? Back to Cardiff?"
"No, it's not safe. I know a place in London that'll do," said Ianto, not telling her how he found it. His old security passwords for Torchwood One still worked. He closed his eyes like that would make the memories go away. So many good men and women had died that day because of greed. Gwen yawned beside him before he noticed her shivering. He took off his coat and placed it around her shoulders.
"Don't stay up too late, big day tomorrow," he told her and she rested her head against his chest for a moment. He swept the loose hair from her face and went back to the tent he shared with Jack.
I did finish a story so I took another prompt but I never heard back and when I tried to put it in queue, it got rejected so if I hear nothing in the next day or so, I'll post that story, too.
