Previous Chapter: Let's Ride the Spaceship!

Princess Jewelry

Cady was hanging off the couch so that her head touched the ground.

“Cady, I have something to give you,” Ianto spoke and she pulled herself up, “You’re a princess, right?”

“Yes!” she answered and he asked with a wink, “and princesses have jewelry?”

“Yes!” was the response before she pouted again, “but I don’t…not any.” She showed him her bare fingers and wrists. Ianto took out the cheap silver bracelet and slipped it on her right wrist, carefully tightening the aluminum foil against her skin.

“Thank you!” Cady told him and he was caught off guard when she came closer for a hug. He wrapped his arms around her tiny frame for a moment before standing up again.

“One, two, three, four…” he started, closing his eyes and hearing her run across the hard floor, but relieved that it didn’t sound like she fell, “four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, here I come!!”

He turned around to see James frowning at him.

“I entrusted you to her care and you let her play All Hid here! What if something happens to her? What if you can’t find her? We don’t even know where she is, she took off so fast…I believe she’s faster than a Weevil,” said the man and Ianto had to smirk at that. He was also tempted to respond to the accusation. However, he did not. Instead, he reached into his coat and bought out his mobile, pulling up one of the custom applications on it. It was a green dot moving around a blue schematic of the Hub.

“She’s wearing a GPS chip on her wrist so I know exactly where she is,” he informed the other, “Jack used to look for my mobile all the time so now…we have to play naked.”

“Oh,” was James response and he asked, “Where is she now?”

“Jack’s office,” Ianto replied, amused, “think I’ll wait a bit before finding her.”

************************************************************

Jack settled into his chair, propping his feet on the desk while picking up the latest forms to fill out. Then, the door jiggled.

“Twist the knob, James!” he called and didn’t look up from his paperwork until the door opened and he didn’t see the tall man’s form from the corner of his eye. He set it down and saw Cady.

“And what are you looking for?” he inquired of her.

“No, he looks for me,” she stated as though he were an idiot, “but I gotta hide.”

Oh, they were playing hide and go seek, he realized and couldn’t help smiling. Her white kicks clomped on the floor and she pointed at his coral, “What’s that?”

“It’s a pet of sorts,” he tried to explain; taking her hand away with a gentle grasp.

“No, it’s not,” she spoke, putting her hands on her hips like someone five times her age.

“And why not?” he questioned, curious.

“Not furry,” Cady insisted, studying the rest of his desk, “and I can’t see it moving.”

“No, not every pet is furry,” Jack said as she picked up the model of the plane and started making noises while flying it around, “and it doesn’t move because it takes a really, really long time for it to grow.”

“Like a year?” she asked, not looking at him.

“A lot longer than that…”

“Wow, like two years…,” the little girl interrupted and set the plane back down but on a different part of the desk. She tapped the edge of the wood until his chair stopped her and it wouldn’t budge because he was sitting in it. There was a pout and Jack watched to see what she would do next. Little hands grabbed at his trousers and the chair until she pulled herself onto his lap for what must have been a much better view of his desk.

“You need more toys,” she judged and he laughed before realizing.

“What? What’s funny?” she demanded, turning to face him.

“Well, I have lots of toys but they’re only for grown-ups,” he told her and knew that the child was making him do what few could do…blush.

“Not fair! You need kid toys,” she complained, poking him in the chest with her forefinger to illustrate her point.

“Well, we don’t have kids visit normally, you’re a first,” Jack spoke, then remembering through a sort of murky fog that it wasn’t but then things not involving Ianto or the Doctor or Trea were sort of a blur at this point.

“No kids?” she questioned as though that was the weirdest idea ever.

“Nope, no kids,” he answered, surprised at how he sounded; a little bit sad but it was probably because of Trea. He thought she would have contacted him by now yet she hadn’t. Had something happened? Or had she reconsidered their reunion? Perhaps there was some way of finding her; he could try the girl with the cards…it had also been ages since he’d seen Alice or Steven.

Then, he heard someone approach.

“Quick! Hide behind the desk!” he hissed, picking her up and placing her on the floor.
“Jack…” Ianto began and he knew that his lover was looking for the girl except neither one mentioned it.

“How’s the babysitting?” Jack asked him, shifting closer to the desk so she had more room.

“As I remembered,” he replied and Jack realized that he had forgotten that about his past. Ianto looked down at the mobile in his hand which must be why Cady had the new bracelet.

“Will you have any time for me before the party tonight?” he asked Ianto who leaned over the desk.

“Maybe,” the man answered; the light glinting off his blue eyes although his attention kept going to his lips that seemed so inviting. He inclined his head towards Ianto’s.

“You gonna kiss?” called Cady, scaring them.

“Well, not now,” Jack replied, slumping back in his chair.

“There you are,” said the other man with a forced smile at the girl.

“Kiss, kiss, kiss!” she chanted which made him not want to comply. However, Ianto did, taking his face in his hands and pressing those adorable lips to his. He could forget everything kissing him so it wasn’t until the kiss ended that it dawned on him that it was the first time that his lover had initiated a kiss with someone else around. There was joy at that.

“Aww!” the little girl commented and Ianto’s smile was now genuine. Jack shared it and they shared one of those glances that made him feel for a few seconds that all was right with the world. It was broken when she tugged at his sleeves.

“Come play with us!” she requested and Jack could not say no.

“Alright,” he agreed and stood up. For a couple of hours, they played until Cady’s stomach rumbled.

“Pizza?” Ianto asked and she nodded with one caveat, “But I just want cheese.”

“Then, we’ll also get a Meat Lover’s pizza,” he added, taking out his mobile. However, then Jack noticed how the girl looked uncomfortable.

“What is it?” he inquired as the Welshman made the order.

“I need to go to the loo,” she spoke, bouncing and his bladder squirmed just watching her.

“Come on then,” he said, taking her hand. She glanced at Ianto, but Jack shook his head, explaining, “It might take awhile.”

Nice to know that she still preferred the young man to him, thought Jack, curious why that was. He thought he and Cady had gotten along well the last couple of hours. His thoughts turned out correct since she did allow him to take her to the bathroom. Jack propped the door open with his foot in case she needed help.

“No! Stay out!” she yelled, pushing him out the door. It was mainly due to his being shocked, but she was a lot stronger than he would have thought for her age.

“And don’t hear me!” she exclaimed and he moved a little bit away. He was very relieved when Ianto walked up to him just as the door opened.

“Did you wash your hands?” he asked and the girl nodded, holding out her hands, “Did you flush?”

Her little face went red and she ran back in.

“Should have asked that first, “ he muttered; much too hard on himself.

“I wouldn’t have thought of it,” Jack admitted.

“Remember to wash your hands again!” Ianto called and turned back to him, “I suppose you say it enough times; then you remember it forever.”

“All done!” Cady clarified, coming out.
