I forgot to mention last night what makes it so sad if it is the "slow path Jack". About 80 years before "Out of the Rain", Jack was in the carnival as "the man who wouldn't die" where he shot himself in the head every night. This would be sometime between 1925-1931, but more likely, after what took place in 1928...
