I love when Melanie actually stands up for herself. There's a part in the book where Rhett pisses everyone off with his anti-war sentiments, and Aunt Pittypat is telling Melanie that they don't need to be talking to or associating with Rhett, and she actually stands up for herself and says "I WILL keep talking to Rhett Butler, and I'll keep being hospitable to him because he is so kind and nice to me and Scarlett." Because Melanie is a saint like that.
