They were both product placement. She doesn't use search engines in the book, and she was much more of a pizza eater in the novel than a McDonalds one. They do, however, have a lot of McDonalds in Sweden, so they were probably just utilising that.

And the Wiki is not really right about Salander and Blomkvist getting back together. They do make amends after everything he goes through to help her in the second and third novels, but they're never really a "couple," which was a nice switch I think from how most stories would take it.

And yes, there were some major changes, but nothing really to worry about. It's already been acknowledged by the writers of both the Swedish adaptations and the Fincher team that the sole purpose of that was to ensure people could read the book after seeing the film and not be bored by it.

And I definitely *do* encourage reading the books. Some of the most engaging modern novels I've read in years, and Larsson wove a lot of true life experience and things he saw as a journalist himself into the story that's not really noticeable if you see it only on visual media.
