Joss Whedon
Mar. 24th, 2012 01:02 amI didn't want The Avengers to be my nephews' first experience with Joss Whedon so I've been exposing them to slightly age appropriate material.
Middle nephew was so cute reenacting Mal and Jayne with his Nerf rifle. "She's our witch!"
However, I hope he doesn't repeat "The hammer is my penis" around the wrong people.
They absolutely loved Firefly. When I told them it was the last episode, they were like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"But why? Why would they cancel it? Are there going to be new ones? They should make new ones."
No, I haven't shown them Serenity. Let them keep that innocence a little longer.
I also showed them the Halloween scene from Castle "That's the Firefly guy!" and who they are on Halo although the concept of voice acting was a little hard on the younger ones.
Unfortunately, now we have to come up with something else for them to watch. I've already shown them all the Harry Potter films, Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition, PeeWee's Playhouse and The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.
Firefly had that perfect blend of comedy, guns and violence to keep their attention. They liked Dr. Horrible but it was a little more confusing to the younger ones what was going on.
However, Jayne...err, Adam Baldwin is going to be on Castle this season! Yay!
I was watching the 42 and my mom said she could picture the captain being and looking like Kaylee would be like when she was older.
Oh, also, just when we thought Joss Whedon wasn't enough of an omnipotent power...
"Drew and Joss said to me, 'Why the hell aren't you playing Thor?'" Hemsworth recalls. "I said, 'I don't know. I had an audition and it went nowhere.' Joss [spoke to] Kenneth Branagh and said some great things, and that got me back in the game."
If I find out that he's also responsible for Jeremy Renner playing Hawkeye...

Date: 2012-03-28 01:45 am (UTC)Then, I watched Mal have sex with Inara's friend at the brothel and thought nothing in Buffy before the UPN years can be THAT awkward to watch with them. I'm fine watching that stuff with my mom since we've seen Velvet Goldmine and most of the Kevin Smith films together, but watching sex scenes around my 14 and 10 year old nephews is just weird and icky.
So now, I'm reconsidering it. However, it would depend on whether the middle nephew still hates vampires with a burning passion to the point of refusing to watch them or anything with them...
