Gloomy Weather=Movie Watching Weather
Aug. 27th, 2012 08:35 pmI'd meant to watch Starter for Ten ages ago because of James McAvoy and Dominic Cooper...things got in the way...
Today, I rectified it after finally watching History Boys. My mom recognized Russell Tovey.
First, James' hair was ick but then, James Corden came on and I was...
"Mom, you have to come see this! He has Thor hair and it's just...no."
My Mom: Well, he is acting, are all of them from the other movie?
Me: Well, no, the middle one is but the one on the far end...
My Mom: He looks like a young version of...that guy from X-Men
Me: Yes, it IS James McAvoy and see, it's Charles Xavier talking to Howard Stark.
Then, Catherine Tate is his MOTHER!
Just when the Doctor Who, Marvel, fandomness can't possibly get worse...
Sherlock is yelling at Charles Xavier.
Charles Xavier is fighting Howard Stark.
Howard Stark is choking Sherlock.
Sherlock fights back and starts slapping him like a girl.
Howard punches Sherlock, laying him out.
Have I mentioned Mark Gatiss is in this?
I just wish we knew who Rebecca Hall was playing in Iron Man 3. I also find it funny that without having seen these films and mostly on the basis of his Willoughby in Sense and Sensibiity, I always felt his being cast as Howard Stark was absolutely perfect. One of the few times that I heard casting news and went, YES!

Date: 2012-08-28 01:02 am (UTC)But Starter for 10 was the the stepping stone up for future nerdy roles and its amazing. Even if
Donna NobleCatherine Tate has to be way too young to play James McAvoy's mother.no subject
Date: 2012-08-28 01:25 am (UTC)But let's not forget, the Doctor Who fandom is represented besides just Catherine Tate... James Corden played Craig for two episodes with Eleven! :)

Date: 2012-10-07 05:50 am (UTC)I saw that one in the theatre as soon as I could. I haven't seen all Cooper's movies on the big screen but I've seen most of them there...he looked especially good as a vampire; kicking ass and not taking names...made me want a Howling Commandos movie where Howard joins them. I think I mentioned in my Abraham Lincoln review how his casting as young Howard Stark was one of the few times where I hear about someone's casting and go, YES, THAT'S PERFECT! I knew he would have the attitude and he resembles Robert Downey Jr, too.
Well, cinematic Howard Stark seems softened up...he's very Disneyfied...literally if you know your Disney trivia.
I would love a book, movie, fanfic dealing with what happened. It seemed like he internalized all the losses until it made him cold and alcoholic. I'm sure he definitely blames himself on Steve being lost and not being able to find them, plus, he and Peggy seem to have drifted apart. I know they try to make it seem at times like everything is wonderful with the gender relations but the plain fact is that while Peggy and women were respected during WW2, afterward they were simply expected to go back to "their place". She probably would become increasingly concerned with Howard and his weapons which would cause more and more of a rift. The weapons were probably another way of trying to cope by trying to make sure we would never have another world war like that again.
I might write something myself, lol.
However, it also makes me that much more curious about Maria Stark...who is this person that finally got him to put a ring on it? We know so little about her, mainly just the bits of Tony that you can tell aren't from his dad.
Yeah, it was like...did Donna have him when she was 12?

Date: 2012-10-08 07:27 am (UTC)And with Howard, thinking about it, I don't know if the huge difference in young and old versions of him. With what we're presented in the movies directly anyway. The only time young-Howard is seen actually caring about Steve is when he's doing the underwater searches. Before he's kind of professionally friendly. Kind of like the way Tony was in the fun-vee back in IM1 before he got blown up. I can see Howard's detachment just solidifying with age until Tony's born and Howard can't care about anything except for his company.
(Also, Be Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was kind of stupid ridiculous, but the tone of it is something I like. I just saw the trailer for Spielberg's Lincoln movie, and I couldn't help but think that I'd take the vampire hunter campiness over the oscar bait-y seriousness.)
