The Americans
Feb. 28th, 2013 08:10 pmI've finally started catching up on The Americans. I was super excited about this show. It's Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys and Maximiliano Hernández!
Yes, I did watch every episode of Felicity and when JJ Abrams explained that Alias started off as a "what if Felicity was secretly a spy?", I thought would be an awesome idea. So now, over ten years later, we have Felicity as a spy but it's so much more layered than that because she's Russian pretending to be American, she loves her husband but it was an arranged marriage, they have two kids together and her father died fighting Nazis.
She also kicks a lot of ass.
Sometimes, I pretend that Elizabeth was in the Red Room with Natasha...
There were only two real reasons why I kept up watching Brothers & Sisters, Kevin and Scotty. They were one of the greatest couples ever. I mean we talk about Janto but this was full-on...it felt like fanfic come alive sometimes. It was wonderful. They even did MPreg in a dream sequence.
Anyway, Rhys was half of that couple so I love seeing him in new things. He is also a Russian double agent. I haven't found out much about his character yet but I'm intrigued.
He kicks a lot of ass, too.
Okay, I know most of you don't know Maximiliano Hernández by name but most of you do know his most famous role:
Agent Jasper Sitwell
This is basically the same, lol. I suppose between that and my overdosing on Marvel films, it's why it always seems weird to have him without glasses here. I never had that problem with Ringer.
Still, it is 1980 or so, thus, my head canon now believes this is simply Sitwell's DAD!
Ugh, everything is so exciting!
I could do without the random sex scenes but this is FX and I do recall this pattern from Rescue Me and Nip/Tuck.

Date: 2013-03-02 01:23 am (UTC)But The Americans is so good. I'm a couple of episodes behind due to work, but I fully intend to catch up this weekend.
I love Keri Russell, but I also love the whole plot. Secret Russian spies are always the one dimensional villain with no real background; what I love is that the writers are giving the audience a glimpse into what it was like being a spy in America.
