I'm going to hope I'm wrong but judging from the amount of blue in his outfit and the short hair, this appears to be a boy.



Disney! Us girls like Toy Story, too! It was bad enough that when I was on my search for Lotso, you directed me to the room of Boys Toys. Now, you do this. What can we do to prove that Toy Story is unisex? Furthermore, you know all those Prince of Persia toys you can't get anyone to buy? If you had Richard Coyle featured in any of the merchandise other than books, I would have bought it. I bought just about everything with Jack Davenport on it for Pirates.

Also, Buzz does not fly out of the lunchbox when you open it. I've tried several times....and Amendment 2, you are so going DOWN! Bring it on haters, if you want a fight to the death aka The Supreme Court, you'll have one.

Screw whoever says Toy Story is only for boys. I could totally see little girls having that lunchbox/backpack. And you know... when I was a kid I knew a heck of a lot more little girls who's favorite color was blue rather than pink. Going through toy aisles can really piss me off, and this is why. :P

Ah yes, the automatic segragation of "boys = blue" and "girls = pink". SO ANNOYING. Especially since, up until the mid 20th century, pink was for boys!

Basically, the end of World War II ruined everything...that's when people started getting so uptight about...well, everything including *gasp* homosexuality.

Agreed. This is bad enough, but having to change the title of Rapunzel to Tangled was really a stretch. Especially since the merchandise is aimed at girls anyway (I JUST SAW the Rapunzel dolls at Toys R Us the other day, too).

And I would also argue that Lotso is supposed to be a toy that would appeal to both boys AND girls. He is fuschia pink and smells like strawberries, for crying out loud!

Ooh, they have Rapunzel dolls? I was just at TRU on Monday and didn't see anything although I'm still not sure about her. She doesn't seem as cool and intelligent as Tiana or Belle.

It was also the trigger for the introduction of religion into law, not surprisingly. It was either 1952 or '54 that the Pledge was amended by Congress to include "under god" (which incidentally, I understand the original writer deliberately left out), after a campaign by the Catholic Knights of Columbus to get it put in. And of course, there was the McCarthyism run rampant ...

ETA: Anyway, my point is, maybe the combination of the war, Hitler's cruelty, and the Depression all combined to make Americans grateful they'd survived any of it, let alone all three, and they got all religious. /shrug

There are yellow and green baby things though. I know my mom painted my room white even though she assumed I'd be a boy, but yeah, it does seem to have gotten worse. I don't if that's because only the rich can afford new baby things and they tend to be more socially conservative?

Okay, here's what I know: NECA has a DMC Norrington...can't remember about Admiral, Zizzle has the regular actions figures; one for DMC and one as Admiral, Zizzle also has one or two fizz figures, Megabloks has a DMC and an Admiral figure, there was also a playset like the old Polly Pocket with a tiny Admiral and Disney has an Admiral in their POTC Mystery Figure collection packets...I've bought two and got him both times.

That's all I can think of, plus he was in books...I have a personal rule that I only buy POTC books if Norrington is in them.

Hehe, oh yes, books, including this book of DMC with the story cd built into the cover that several full-page photos of Norrington alone.

Then, there's the young Jack Sparrow book, Sins of the Father...has Norrington's father and James as a boy...so cute, but tragic...his father is abusive.

I'll have to put together a full Norrington post, I was already planning on showing off my newest Borders acquisitions...I found two Norrington books for a dollar, woo!

Sadly, I've seen this "Toy Story is for boys!" thing as well. I was at CVS the other day and they had this cardboard tray of candies. One side of the tray was pink with the Disney Princesses, and the other side was blue and it had Woody, Jessie, and Buzz smiling up at me. I don't think Jessie was too happy about it. :(

Disney's marketing team is made of fail these days.

That's a lot of blue. O_O One of the things I loved about Bonnie (and Andy, actually) in Toy Story was that she had several different types of toys, some of which would usually be considered "boy" or "girl" toys, that she mixed together for the stories she made up. I liked it because that's often what kids do. I think her room was also blue, if I remember correctly. Pixar gets it, why can't the marketing people get it?

I bought an Alien plushie from the Disney Store the other day, and a Toy Story bag to carry him home in :D

The Disney Store is my all time favourite shop - and I bought just about everything with Pirates of the Caribbean on it... and Toy Story Aliens! :D The stuff is mostly aimed at girls with all the Princesses and Hannah Montana [shudder], so I guess they market Toy Story as more of a boys' thing to try and equal things out? It does seem unfair though, because I love Pirates and Toy Story just as much a boy does...
