This week was the thirtieth anniversary of John Lennon's death. I'm not sure that I really thought about it a lot before, but ever since Nowhere Boy, I've been made more aware of their bromance. Yes, I'm going to use that word because that is exactly what it was and you can tell as he sings songs this week, that John and Paul McCartney had an epic friendship that had its ups and downs but was tragically cut short. Paul still seems broken up about it if you watch him. They were a pivotal force in each other's lives and if you haven't seen Nowhere Boy, you NEED to!
It's so much better than Lennon Naked which, aside from Naoki Mori, was HORRIBLY miscast! I couldn't even keep track of who was who.

Here is one of the scenes with the two of them. The bromance is well-represented in the film. It felt real and Thomas Sangster and Aaron Johnson have a lot of chemistry.

It'll be available to rent or buy on Region 1 on January 25, 2011:

Yes! I totally saw it and thought I was going to cry watching him. Then, last night he did "Get Back" and went into "Give Peace a Chance". I teared up again. I was going to try and find a copy online and post it later but it's NBC...and they tend to be dicks although Jimmy's pretty good about having the full show AND highlights.

Did you see the episode where Jimmy had Ringo as his sole guest?
That's never coming off the dvr.

NBC is terrible with videos! I hate that.

I didn't see Ringo though :( It was on my dvr to watch and my family decided to surprise me with an HD box and brought mine in to switch so I lost it. I was heartbroken.

I've never thought about their partnership that way, but you're right, it was. So sad it was cut short like that :(. Had John not been murdered, while they might never have written anything together again, that friendship would still have been there. I agree with you about Paul still being sad about the loss, too. Although we don't see the deep grief that he probably had immediately after John's death and that's reflected in "Here Today" (that's the title of the song he played on Jimmy Fallon), I have no doubt he still misses him terribly :(.
The bromance is well-represented in the film.
If you liked that, you might like this film that VH1 did several years ago called Two Of Us. It's about a (possibly fictional) visit Paul made to John in, I think, the mid-70's. It was very much a summary of how their partnership played out after the Beatles broke up. They start out being kind of wary and short with each other, but by the end, they're best buddies again. There's this great scene between them on the roof of John's apartment building that's funny, dramatic, and heartwarming all at the same time. It's a great movie :].

You're welcome :). I don't know if you like them, or are even familiar with them, but Aidan Quinn and Jared Harris play the lead roles of Paul and John, respectively. Jared Harris is practically a doppelganger for John, both appearance and personality-wise. With Aidan Quinn, they got Paul's personality & mannerisms down, I thought, but not so much appearance. Even so, that doesn't take away from his performance in the least :]. If you can track it down, you won't be disappointed, believe me 8).
