Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth
Jan. 1st, 2011 10:20 am
So, Magic Kingdom still has their Jack Sparrow and he puts on a little show, very similar to the Jedi Training Academy but for pirates. Anyway, in order to outwit the pirate, Jack has you swordfight three moves and say, "Look, the governor's daughter!" The pirate looks in a different direction while Jack has you run away. However, for the final child, Jack filled in as the pirate but when the child yelled, "Look, the governor's daughter!", Jack didn't even blink. Then, Jack explained, "You know, she really isn't that attractive."
*jaw drop*
Disney was letting their employee in character bash Liz? Was this in response to J/E Sparrabethers? Just improvisation that they didn't know about?
Overall, it was fun though.

Sometimes, when I watch Jack Sparrow recently, he reminds me of Owen from Torchwood, like someone hurt him so deeply that he just went, Fuck that.

Date: 2011-01-02 06:30 pm (UTC)Okay, first of all, it's a Woody Allen film and in all Woody Allen films, the characters are crazy and/or do crazy things, it's what he does. This just happens to take place in Spain.
I've seen most of Woody Allen's films and this is definitely one of his best. The cast is phenomenal. I don't always like Scarlett Johanssen but I loved her here. She does Allen dialogue really well.
I was already a fan of Penelope from her Almodovar roles which don't tend to be normal either.
The one we weren't sure about was Javier Bardem since we best knew him as the sadistic son of a bitch from No Country for Old Men. However, he totally won us over with this role. He was sexy and handsome and gorgeous and damn, he wears those Converse well!
Of course, he and Penelope have amazing chemistry.
It also has a lot of Spanish scenery. Afterwards, my brother and I even discussed going there...didn't happen, but it looks gorgeous on film. Hall and Johanssen's characters are American so they do a lot of touristy places and sights.
I may be American but I never thought of it as exploitative. It was filmed in Spain with Spaniards and it had scenes that really made me feel for the characters and their plight. It wasn't a laugh a minute romp or something like that.

I've seen Penelope in Almódovar films and she's great. Sometimes I think that her looks hamper her in the US market whereas Almódovar doesn't care about them (probably helps that he's gay). As for Javier Bardem, I'm trying to think what I first saw him in... Probably Jamón, jamón but I think The Sea Inside was the first film where he made an impact on me. And of course they have amazing chemistry together, which is why they're married. 0:)
