What die?

Rhi tried to focus on the magazine, but it was hard to do when she had a tube coming out of her body. One last time, she reminded herself. It was almost over and although her doctor wouldn't actually use the words, it appeared that they had won. She would just need a few more tests and waiting and still more tests to make sure. Kellyn and the others wanted to be here. However, she insisted she wanted to be alone and that Johnny would be there when she was done. When the door opened, she assumed it was another patient. Then, a familiar voice yelled, "Modi!"

He wouldn't...

He did and when she looked up, not only was Jack there with Iefan but Alice and Lucia were there. She shook her head and gave him a glare. Jack just grinned.

"Modi!" Iefan yelled again and went to her. She noticed he was without his faba, probably not allowed in the sterile environment. He raised his arms on her lap for her to pick him up. However, she couldn't between the tube and not feeling well.

"Sorry, Iefan," Rhi spoke and Jack pulled up a chair. Iefan pulled himself into it before Jack could sit down. The toddler pointed to the tube and asked, "Why?"

"It's my medicine. It's making me better," she explained and he stared at the tube.

"Why?"

"Because that's what it's made for," Rhi spoke as Jack pulled up a chair for Alice who looked bigger than the last time Rhi had seen her.

"Why?"

"To help people like me," she said and felt a smile coming because Iefan didn't really want to know. He just wanted attention.

"Why?" Iefan asked and Jack picked him up, sitting in the chair so his son was on his lap.

"So..." Rhi started yet couldn't finish.

"So you don't die?" Lucia asked and her brown eyes were big. It was an odd feeling.

"Yeah," Rhi agreed and Alice set a hand on the arm of her chair. Iefan was confused. His mouth was open slightly. Then, he asked, "What die?"

"Die like not being around anymore, like your daddy," Rhi spoke but when she saw his face, added, "But this means I won't, not for a very, very, very long time. Your daddy will just have to keep himself company."

"Is Iefan's daddy lonely?" Lucia asked.

"No, no he's not," Jack told her as he held Iefan tight, "he has his mum and friends, lots of friends and...and we'll be together again one day."

Rhi wondered if Ianto still visited him in his dreams. She decided to change the subject.

"How were you able to sneak them in?" she asked, nodding towards Lucia and Iefan.

"Just requires the right kind of talking," Jack said with a grin. Rhi wasn't quite sure she had seen this grin, but she'd heard all about it. She knew he used to have it when her brother was alive and wondered what the difference was. Alice made a sound beside her and took her hand away. Rhi looked over to see her rubbing her belly.

"Is the baby moving?" Lucia asked and Alice nodded, "I wanna feel!"

"Want to," Alice corrected as the girl ran over.

"Here," Alice spoke and patted where the girl should put her hand, "She's kicking up a storm."

"No, here," Lucia argued and had her hand in a different place.

"Must be her fists," Alice said and the girl shook her head. Both children probably needed naps.

"Mariah's coming for a visit," Jack spoke and she tried to think who that was. Her mind was a blank.

"Martha's daughter," Jack added and she thought she remembered a girl at Iefan's birthday party. She wasn't sure all three of them would get on that well.

Mica was avoiding her math homework when her mobile went off. It was a text from Eldora.

"Bowtie Man! She's seen the Doctor!" Mica screamed and put her Chucks on. Mum was still at her therapy.

"Going out, back later!" she screamed at her dad and left before her could question her. She took her bike and pedaled as fast as she could to the location.

"Doctor?" she called softly and questioned that approach. Jack had introduced her to Sarah Jane, but Sarah Jane thought she was too young and Jack had agreed. How can she be too young when she had a strong suspicion that Iefan was born on the Tardis? She'd told Eldora about the Doctor without telling her exactly why she wanted to find him or why he was so special. Finding him so close to home was too good to pass up. Then, she heard screaming. He must be close. Mica hopped onto her bike and went towards the sound. A creature similar to a toddler except a bit bigger and with pink skin was running towards her.

"Got ya," she said and put her arms around it. The warm sun beat down on them despite the torrential downpour that morning.

"Gat mah cookul leu!" the creature wailed, like a little kid. To her surprise, she found herself rubbing its back.

"Shh, it's alright now. The Doctor will take you home," she said in a soft voice.

"What? Where?" asked a loud male voice and she looked up, "You."

It was the Doctor.

"We were close," a young man argued before looking back at the ginger woman heading for them. She was doing a slow jog. Then, he noticed Mica. "Who are you?"

The Doctor's green eyes narrowed.

"There's only one fourteen year old in Newport who would track me down like this and you have that same Jones stubbornness. Jack's told me about you," he said before kneeling down to examine the alien she was holding.

"And for those of us in the dark?" the other man asked.

"Yeah," the ginger woman barked.

"Rory, Amy, meet Mica Davies, Jack's niece. She will be leaving shortly since no one knows she's here," he spoke before lifting the alien in his arms. Then, he said something in its native language. He was as smart as everyone said.

"You do possess a time machine. I could go with you and no one would have to know," she said.

"Ha," the Doctor responded, "and suffer the wrath of Rhi Davies? You're forgetting Jack likes to talk. He likes to talk almost as much as...well, other things."

Amy and Rory giggled. Mica knew her uncle had a reputation.

"You owe me. I captured that creature for you," Mica spoke and crossed her arms.

"That creature has a name. She is Princess Galaradee and her parents have been very worried since she accidentally set off a planetary transfer. She winds up here, rubbish bin winds up there," he explained and she was struck by how calm yet demanding his voice was: able to placate the girl in his arms while reprimanding Mica. Still, couldn't she at least see inside the police box?

"Please," Mica begged.

"Aww," said Amy and stroked her stomach. The Doctor and Rory exchanged looks and Mica knew this was a good sign. The Doctor sighed.

"Fine, I will talk to Jack and your parents, but not tonight. Tonight, you are going directly home or there's no deal," he spoke and she tried to control herself.

"So, there's a deal? You promise?" she asked.

"Yes, I promise," he agreed and she couldn't resist a small jump of happiness. Amy laughed.

"I think I'm going to like her," she said and the Doctor shook his head.

"Don't get attached. One trip only. Now, home!" he commanded and Mica decided she better do it before he changed his mind. She supposed she better get started on that math more in earnest.

"Gwen," came Lois' voice over her Comm.

"Yes?" she asked, hoping she knew what the other would say.

"The Tardis has disappeared from Newport and aside from a few calls to 999, nothing's out of the ordinary," Lois spoke and Gwen was relieved.

"Good to hear, go home when you're done," she said and stretched in her chair. She should be going home soon, too. It did annoy her that the Doctor didn't bother to phone. Newport was their jurisdiction. Couldn't he be bothered with a heads up? What if it had been worse?

Gwen stood up and walked to her bulletin board, reassuring herself that they had a purpose.

"We make the world a better place," she whispered to herself and her finger stopped on the name, Ianto Thomas. She looked back at the photos on the desk and her own little boy. Maybe she could buy him a little something on the way home.
