Steve Coogan
Aug. 20th, 2011 01:11 pmOkay, I admit it, I've been a bit of a closet Steve Coogan girl. It all started in 2002 with 24 Hour Party People. I'd just gotten my own computer and saw this fabulous trailer online, full of wonderful Britishness. I really dug the main guy played by Steve Coogan so I waited and waited waited and waited waited and waited waited and waited waited and waited waited and waited but it didn't come here. It was my very first downloaded movie because I gave up waiting and it was so worth it; full of history I knew nothing about with with quirky humor and an awesome cast including Shirley Henderson, Kenny Baker and the guy who was going to play Gollum, lol.
Now, I'm also familiar with Paddy Considine, John Simm, Simon Pegg, and Chris Eccleston...
Did I mention John Simm plays the guitar?
However, that was the film that made me a Steve Coogan fangirl but it wasn't cool. You were supposed to be into Orlando Bloom, Josh Hartnett and Colin Farrel...those were acceptable crushes so I didn't mention it to anyone. It didn't go away though as I watched Around the World in 80 Days, Marie Antoinette, both Night at the Museums, and Percy Jackson...in the theatres...mainly because of him. There were other films but they seem less embarrassing.
I'm not sure whether Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story didn't come here or only came for a week and I couldn't swing it. Either way, I didn't see it until I borrowed it from the library a year or two later. It's fun. I didn't enjoy it as much as 24 Hour but it also has an awesome cast: Rob Brydon, Keeley Hawes, Shirley Henderson, Dylan Moran, Jeremy Northam, Naomie Harris, Kelly MacDonald, Mark Williams, Ian Hart, Gillian Anderson and Stephen Fry.
Now, however, when Hamlet 2 came out...oh, I loved that film..."I feel like I've been raped in the face" but my friend,
wheelchairpower saw it and asked "Do you like Steve Coogan? Because he seems like your type. Did you see Tropic Thunder, too?"
Yes and Yes
