ericadawn16: (Sad)
In December, I mentioned how my birthday plans were to see The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and get the tickets beforehand. The ticket buying part went well. It was after that which got weird. First, we were sick the entire time and even rested up the day before so it would all go right.

Then, our showing got canceled. Our tickets were for the 2D so they gave us the 3D glasses free and I still got a seat in back of the bar, yay!

Sadly, there was no trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron or Star Wars BUT i got Jurassic Park World and it was GLORIOUS! I actually cried. The first Jurassic Park was my favorite movie of all time for almost a decade.

Everyone who cares has seen this, right?

The Film

At least Smaug got to live longer than I thought he might, especially with The Colbert Report clip.

Do you ever have that feeling where you wanted something so much that when you finally get it, you don't want to admit that it wasn't what you thought wanted at all and you almost hate it?

I love Peter Jackson. I have a lot of respect for Peter Jackson, but he needs to do a film completely different, maybe something more like Heavenly Creatures. Of course, there was The Lovely Bones so maybe he needs to get his political frustration out in a more literal sense. As I was watching, I was struck by how bored he must be with Tolkien's world. His shots, sequences and characters were nowhere as inspired as they were in Lord of the Rings. I understand that The Hobbit is a much shorter book but YOU USED THE APPENDICES!

I never liked Thorin that well in the book. He's flawed with little redeeming qualities and he gets a lot of people killed, including his extremely young nephews. In the film, they try to make him a tragic character that's a victim of his own hubris like the Ancient Greeks but the scene where he's almost drowning in the gold is so over the top that I wanted to laugh.

I normally like politics and it was interesting to see more insight into Middle Earth residents but not to that extent; too much battles and squabbles, both in words and in physical actions.

I'm not sure which character pissed me off more: Azog or Alfrid. Any time that either was on screen, I wanted to throw something because they were taking time away from better characters and making the movie unnecessarily long.

The scene with Elrond, Galadriel and Saruman being badass and using the light of Earendil just makes me want The Silmarillion that much more...but with a different director. I'm also still shipping Gandalf/Galadriel even though I love Celeborn and Nienna, sorry.

WHERE IS THE SPY OF LAKETOWN, DAMMIT?

Ooh, Billy Connolly!

"The winter is upon us." You mean, winter is coming? *Facepalm*

I thought they had forgotten about Beorn but he got to come back for literally ONE shot. I laughed when Legolas ran out of arrows and in my head, I heard Tony Stark saying his name. My mom was annoyed by all scenes not directly from the book...although she lovingly refers to the film as "the Legolas film" because he was all she really liked about it...which also ranks it slightly above both of The Amazing Spider-Man films for her. Also, they should never try to top Legolas surfing with a shield in The Two Towers because nothing else will ever be as cool.

My crying could have been related to everyone dying or the experience being over or seeing the scenes I really wanted or Billy Boyd singing the credits song as they had Alan Lee's drawings just like with Return of the King or it could have been the insane amount of jalapeƱos I put on my hot dog. I'm really not sure.

I really thought Tauriel was going to die but since they didn't kill her off, what was she doing during the Battle of the Ring in Peter Jackson's universe?????
It still annoys me although I've noticed enough people have complained about Tauriel/Kili cheapening Legolas/Gimli that there are actually Tumblr posts trying to defend it. They have some good points but...I still can't. I also can't ship Bilbo/Thorin. I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole.

Then, there's Thranduil, who I'm sorry but whenever I see him now, I call him blond Ronan because they're almost exactly the same even though I know saw him as many other parts, including Thranduil before Guardians of the Galaxy. It totally makes sense to give him Elrond's subplot about his wife dying, but still kind of...weird, but because of the power of love between a made up character and her dwarf, his heart grows TWO sizes that day and he's able to tell his son how he really feels.

whatever

The best part of that scene was when I begged the screen, Tell him about Estel and HE DID! WE HAVE AN ARAGORN MENTION! Unfortunately, he'd be like 12 at the time and going by Estel, not Strider...but it's the thought that counts.

Second fist-pump time was when Bilbo came back and found the auction of his belongings although I was hoping for an appearance of Drogo and Pimula because...why not? Everyone else gets to be there.

Also, my mom got me Marvel earrings and my coworker got me a Taco Bell gift card, score! I also love getting to see all of you and everyone on Facebook wish me Happy Birthday. It makes me feel loved.
