The Power of Names
May. 11th, 2016 12:39 amI had such an a ha! moment last night during The Daily Show.

But it's not just that particular racial slur or racial slurs in general, it's EVERYTHING! All names have the power to create negative connotations with us. I hate being called princess, baby, honey, mama and all those cutesy names and then, I have to explain WHY I hate them when the fact is 98% of the time they were never said in a positive way to me.
Why do we insist on knowing WHY a person doesn't like to be called something when the fact is...
A. They have never been called that name in a positive way.
B. If it's a given name or seems like it should be a compliment, it was never said by someone who actually meant it lovingly.
C. If it's a given name or seems like it should be a compliment, it was always said by those who only wanted to manipulate.
The bottom line is...
If someone doesn't like to be called something, don't question them about it. Just respect their wishes and don't call them that!
