Well, this is the best reason yet for not seeing it.

Twilight ‘Breaking Dawn’ Scene Allegedly Causing Seizures

Oh, I'll see it eventually on the free Showtime weekend with all the lights on and wearing my sunglasses and/or looking away during that part.

It still totally annoys me that Hollywood can warn about a film having violence, nudity, profanity and drug use but elements that can actually harm a person like flashing lights?

No warning whatsoever...

my favorite comment from the article:

I DON’T THINK IT’S THE LIGHTS. I THINK IT’S THE SCRIPT.

I had to close my eyes and bury my face or else I would have had one. I had one before years earlier and it wasn't a fun experience. totally killed the movie for me.

*was only watching for Kellan Lutz*

That's so scary. D: I'm seeing it on Sunday probably. My friend really wants to see it and she rarely gets to go to the movies (has four kids and a shitty husband). Neither of us is epileptic, though. I agree, they really should warn for this kind of thing much more than nudity or profanity or something.

Robert Pattin...Patten...Patt...the ugly bastard half the planet is swooning over would be more than enough , never mind the whole bloody film.

I heard about this. They really need to include a warning. They warn for flashing lights and stuff in video games and I've seen them for some TV shows before. Movies should definitely have them.

That's just stupid. If they've ever been to the disco they'd have experienced it. It's the same thing. That flashing light they use.

Article's stupid. :P

I want to see the film, but can't. My stupid little country didn't bring it to theaters. :P

Yes, you're right. Discos and nightclubs often contain strobe lights which is why in the last eleven years, I've only been a handful of times. On the rare occasions I do go, I have to bring my sunglasses with me and always stay with a buddy who will understand if I have to leave quickly from becoming ill.

The two times that I've attended special Halloween events that often have strobe lights, I wore my sunglasses but sometimes, that wasn't enough so I would have to close my eyes while a friend led me around to a safe location.

Sometimes, those of us who suffer from Photosensitive Epilepsy can be so sensitive that two of my seizures were provoked by the old kind of box computer monitor because of how the picture was formed on the screen. So for people like me, the article is very serious business.

I'm sorry about you not being able to see it. Road trip to Greece or Bulgaria?

No I meant it's stupid because they're making this like it's such a rare occurence. And like you said other things can cause it.

I would love to, but I can't. Belgrade would be my first option since I know the cinemas there, but I have to go to school and if I go there I don't have where to sleep so my parents wouldn't let me.

There should be warnings - if you go to a special theater at a museum or amusement park with a 3D feature, you're always warned that it might cause problems for people prone to seizures and heart problems and the like.

I just don't understand why everything has to be 3D in the first place these days. I'd rather not spend a movie worrying about keeping glasses over my glasses, for one thing... I don't know, I think instead of telling us to revolutionize our eyes, they should come up with even better special effects and pictures. Seriously.

The sad thing is Breaking Dawn pulls this off without even being 3D.

YES!

They're coming out with all six Star Wars films in 3D in the theatres...we'll see if Lucas allows for 2D showings...

You know, I suffered for over a decade with adolescent-onset epilepsy and all I can say is that any epileptic who is aware that their seizures are triggered by flashing lights wouldn't be in a movie theatre in any event---it's not just strobe lights that do the trick or fancy efx. So either the person in question was not diagnosed or is a freaking idiot for risking a seizure in a public place. (Mine were sleep triggered--either too little or waking too quickly---they started when I was 14 and believe me, I became very careful about afternoon naps and getting to bed on time because I did not want to be spazzing out in public.).

Maybe he wanted to be pretend he was normal for just a couple of hours?

Then again, by that definition, I am also a freaking idiot. I have photosensitive seizures. I have had them in front of others and once in public although no one noticed. They thought I was asleep. I always sleep afterwards.

I have also never let me be forced away from a movie theatre, except that one time when a showing turned out to be 3D instead of 2D. For the majority of times, there haven't been any problems from it.

You made a personal choice not to have a seizure in public at all costs but not anyone even has that luxury. The movie theatre isn't the only possible problem for photosensitive epileptics. I have also had problems with nightclubs, Halloween events, old computer monitors, old televisions, old lighting/dying bulbs that flicker, certain websites, video games, television programs/music videos, driving past/being around emergency vehicles at night, short 3D films at amusement parks and other situations I've forgotten.

If myself or others avoided every possible circumstance where a seizure might happen, we would not be able to have any sort of meaningful life. I admit to not telling most of my coworkers because of the looks and misconceptions but at the same time, maybe the public need to be forced to acknowledge us as people. We accept women breastfeeding in public, kissing in public and everything done on those reality shows so why are Epileptics supposed to be kept secret? Why shouldn't we expect the public to become more understanding? Why do we demand the need for understanding for every other minority group and decry bullying for everything and everyone but Epileptics?

I never said they shouldn't post warnings. I simply said that if one's epilepsy is that photosensitive, there are more things that could provide triggers in a darkened theatre with all kinds of action than in other places. And if one is aware of that fact, perhaps a bit of research might be in order. I've also had situations where I did have seizures in front of others and since mine were grand mal, it was a humiliating experience I was not likely to want to happen again. It's sad, but the public in general are assholes more likely to accuse one of being on drugs or drunk than having the capability to comprehend a neurological disorder like epilepsy. I never said there shouldn't be warnings. There should be. And then each person needs to take responsibility for their own situation as much as possible.

Is it wrong that this made me laugh? Probably. But that movie was SO BAD. To say nothing of the book.

Breaking Dawn the book is one of the most hilarious things ever written, like a Bruce Campbell film in book form.
