George Bailey would have totally worked with Occupy: Wall Street. It's both awesome and sad how well the dialogue stays up to date in It's a Wonderful Life. He just reminded Mr. Potter aka Big Bank and 1% how:

Mr. Potter (on giving loans so that more people can have houses):
What does that get us? A discontented, lazy rabble instead of a thrifty, working class.

George Bailey: You said they had to wait and save their money before they even thought of a decent home. Wait? Wait for what? Wait for their children to grow up and leave them? Wait until they're so old and broken down...?
Do you know how long it takes a working man to save $5,000?
Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about. They do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath?

Amen

I love that movie so much. We watched it every Christmas for years.

And hear, hear!

WOW, that's SCARILY relevant to what's going on now =O! I've only seen the film once or twice, so I don't remember it that well. I noticed something similar a couple of weeks ago. We just finished reading John Steinbeck's The Grapes Of Wrath in a literature class I'm currently taking, and there were a number of passages in there that seemed very relevant to today. I really admire authors and film makers who have that great an understanding of human society(ies).

Yes, I've read and seen The Grapes of Wrath and you're quite right. It seems to me that most of the people who claim those who fail history are doomed to repeat it...didn't actually learn the right lessons.

You should definitely see the film again. I watch it every year but it's a bit like re-reading Little Women, there's always something different that strikes a chord with me.
