Help: Stamp Preservation
Dec. 8th, 2011 11:24 pmI recently purchased stamps commemorating Queen Elizabeth's coronation and considering they're 58 years old, I don't want to mess them up.
I need help on how to keep them looking nice and how to display them. There are too many for a single 5x7. I'm inclined towards a double 5x7 with a hinge but I heard you have to buy special paper. I'm definitely worried since we have a lot of things that get brown/orange spots on them.
Does anyone know anything about stamps?

Date: 2011-12-09 12:32 pm (UTC)Mounting stamps can be an utter pain in the arse but whatever you do DON'T put them in plastic or have them laminated.
Arches have acid-free, pH-neutral 100% cotton rag paper that may well be suitable for mounting the stamps and glassine paper is best for using as a dust/protective covering if you don't get them framed.
Basically you have to make sure anything that comes in contact with the stamps is archival quality.
If you do get them framed hang the framed stamps on a wall out of direct sunlight and as much indirect sunlight as possible. UV light breaks down the inks.

Date: 2011-12-10 01:12 am (UTC)I think I'm not sure what the two of you mean by hinges. I meant that the photo frames would be hinged/folding. Do photo frames contain glue? If you are referring to a different hinge, could you explain it, please?
Thank you for all your help.
