Later, they set the body bag on the floor of the crypt and he opened drawer number seven. Then, he unzipped it to reveal Ianto’s pale form. He gasped, unable to help it and Gwen hugged him from the side.

“It’s just hard to see him like this,” said Jack and she nodded. Pulling on the hem of her green tee, she confirmed, “I know…it’s like he’s just sleeping.” He touched the cut on his lover’s cheek that would never heal.

“I’m still sorry that I never said I love you before you died, that we never went on that minibreak, that we’ll never know if we would have made it legal someday, that you never got around to introducing me to Rhi and the kids, that I didn’t tell you sooner about Alice and Steven, and a thousand years from now, I will still remember you as I promised,” Jack vowed and ran the back of his hand down the other cheek; so cold. He reached under Ianto’s armpits and pulled him out of the bag. He really did look like he was sleeping. The cut was the only visible thing wrong with him. Suzie had been placed in one of these with a hole on both sides of her head, Owen had lain on the autopsy table with blood still staining his chest and Tosh had bled all over the stone floor of the morgue. There wasn’t a single speck of blood on Ianto.

His blue eyes started to water while his lover’s eyes remained shut. He’d never see those baby blues again. Gwen took Ianto’s left hand and he saw her chew her lip before speaking, “You were the little brother my parents never had. My fellow Welsh, you understood things about me that the rest of them couldn’t and I love you and I miss you and I will never forget you. I know that Jack doesn’t believe in such things, but I hope you’re in heaven with Owen and Tosh…and Steven.”

The tears flowed down his cheeks at the thought of the four them together someplace else…someplace other than the darkness he knew so well. She was crying as well when she kissed the dark brown hair. He hugged Ianto’s body close as he stood up and laid him carefully into the drawer.

“I know you’d understand,” said as he lifted up his lover’s wrist and removed his watch before putting it on his own. Jack saw a round curve in Ianto’s left trouser pocket and knew it was the stop watch. He left it there. Then, he kissed those lips one last time and all those memories flooded into his head of happier times.

“Goodbye Ianto,” Gwen uttered and he repeated it, “Goodbye Ianto.” The two of them pushed the drawer shut. Upon opening another drawer was Janet’s body. He sniffed and found the tears slowing down.

“Janet, you go where no other Weevil has gone before,” he spoke and grabbed her under the armpits to pull her out of the drawer.

“Gwen, hold the bag open, “he ordered and laid her inside prior to zipping it closed.

“Won’t they suspect something at the mortuary or the funeral?” asked the Welshwoman with her arms folded.

“They’re the only one we use; they’re used to doing as we tell them and not asking questions,” he explained and picked up the body bag. After they got her to the car, gave her to the mortuary, he’d still need to find Johnny’s car and clean up for tonight.

“And Johnny thought he’d never see his baby again,” said Rhi, opening up the passenger side door and leaning in later that night, “He was right about you, handsome.”

“What? Johnny?” Jack questioned and she laughed.

“Ianto, you daft sod” she retorted and sat on the seat, closing the door behind her, “He agreed with Susan’s assessment that you looked like a film star.”

“I always thought he was gorgeous,” he said and couldn’t help studying her profile. It was a shame that her eyes weren’t blue but they shared other features; dark hair, the chin and even the nose looked similar. She wore a small smile at his comment yet her fingers were constantly moving as though nervous. This was confirmed by her opening and closing her mouth several times before broaching what she had to say, “I’m afaid I wasn’t very nice to Gwen when she told me.”

“That’s understandable. I was a coward for not telling you myself, but it was almost like…nothing else mattered when he died. The world could just end and I wouldn’t care,” he admitted despite her being a total stranger although she wasn’t entirely. She was Ianto’s sister.

“It did seem like it would stop, didn’t it? But it didn’t. It keeps going…he’s just not in it,” she agreed and sighed. He kept driving and she continued, “What did Ianto tell you our father did for a living?”

“Master tailor but I knew he worked at Debenhams,” he answered and she was wringing her hands again.

“Then, you were alright with the lies?”

“It’s a two-way street,” Jack replied with a forced laugh, “but it made him happy to pretend and that’s what was important to me. I wanted him happy.”

“Right,” she said with a nod, “but if he tells you and his mates that garbage…how do I know he wasn’t doing the same with me?”
He didn’t know what to say.

“Are you really a group of civil servants?”

“Uh, well, we are paid for by the crown and we work for the public good,” he answered as broadly as possible. He didn’t think they’d be delving into the hard questions so soon.

“Ianto said you were working on why all the children were stopping and saying things and he mentioned aliens and I called Ianto at least half a dozen times when the Daleks were here and you could see the other planets and he never called me back until afterward which must mean he was working,” she rambled and he was relieved to see the familiar building.

“Oh look, there’s the restaurant,” he pointed out and opted for valet since that would be faster. Rhi remained silent as he asked the hostess for a private table. Everyone would look at her and then at him with a little judgemental glare. He sighed and uttered, “They all think I’m cheating on him.”

The young woman pursed her lips in sympathy and the waitress arrived, handing out the menus. Rhi stuck out her hand, saying, “I’m Ianto’s sister so you can tell the waitstaff to stop gossiping about this table.”
The waitress shook and agreed, “Yes, mam, now we have a few specials tonight…”

“Now that we have our drinks and the food’s been ordered, tell me what my brother really did,” she spoke and had that same expression Ianto would use and that he couldn’t refuse. There was no getting out of this.

“How much do you know about Torchwood?” Jack asked.

I am really liking this story. Tissues all around! This is what should have been in COE. It would have helped heal some fan wounds.

And if I wasn't on unemployment, I'd totally reimburse you. All I can say is that there should be more chapters that won't make you cry, just not right now since it's so soon after Ianto and Steven.

Thank you!

(feels a bit guilty for making everyone buy tissues)

But at least, I think Rhi will be good for Jack.

Thanks for reading.

Oh, thank you!

Well, I definitely wrote it to heal my wounds. I figured I'd make myself a sort of season four and then it wouldn't matter that the real season four was totally different. As it stands, the story starts with COE and ends before The Waters of Mars.
