It's like Romney and Santorum are out to win the Stupid of the Year award.

Now, I was raised in the south but I would never, never use this word and definitely not to describe the president!

What will be interesting is to see if this will have any effect on his campaign. So far they both seem to be experts at shooting themselves in the foot.

This wins the 'foot in mouth'award for the week though.

Dear god, surely to hell he has to withdraw his candidacy after that.

... So a candidate for the Presidency of the united States calling the president a n-word, doesn't count as headline news on every channel?

Geeezus. I foolishly thought having a black President would help the race thing in America, but it just seems to have made it worse.

yes, that's right.

Four years ago, McCain didn't go there (in some ways he's very decent), but I feel that this summer and fall and racism is gonna come out.

You should be tweeting this far and wide. And I want to ask if I can retweet this around myself? So much for Ayatollah Ricky's 'clean campaign'. Despicable!

I'm still in open-mouthed shock, over this. How can he POSSIBLY spin this away? It's no, 'BLAHHH people', that's fer sher. The only word I can possibly imagine him insisting he MEANT to say is, 'Neg- - otiator', but come ON.

Sometimes, I can't even believe that this is still my country. It's like a bad, bad Movie Of The Week.

Yeah, ditto, and the regular media is basically ignoring it...I hope Jon and/or Stephen addresses it.

Yeah, I dunno. I may be in the minority here, but I'm just not buying that this actually was what it sounds like. As much as I dislike Santorum's stances, particularly in the social arena, he's not a stupid man and I find it extremely difficult to believe that he was actually going for the so-called N-word. Don't get me wrong--I don't doubt that he IS an intolerant racist homophobe, I'm just not buying that that's the word that was in his mind or even in his subconscious. I think it's just your classic case of twisted tongue, and it happened to be a combination of sounds that imply probably the worst racist epithet in the language. He's a no-hoper anyway, so some on the left will seize on it and trash him, some on the right will praise him and say he should have let 'er rip, and in the end it won't mean a thing anyway since he'll throw in the towel soon regardless.

I don't know if he meant to say the 'n' word but that looks bad. Very bad indeed.

I put this on the Facebook of every media site I could think of: CNN, MSNBC, ABC News, NBC News CBS News, PBS, Fareed Zakaria, George Stephanopolis' Sunday show, Meet the Press, Washington Week, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Ellen DeGenerous, Wolf Blitzer, Conan, Leno, Letterman, Fallon, Kimmel, Fergeson. Have heard absolutely NOTHING back. No one cares.

The only people I had any hope for were Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart who didn't mention it last night.

The revolution will not be televised, will not be televised,
will not be televised, will not be televised.
The revolution will be no re-run brothers;
The revolution will be live.

I guess it's up to us.
